Scene Manager not showing up on iPad in iPadOS 16.1? (To fix?)
Is Stage Manager not appearing on iPad after iPadOS 16.1 update? Have you installed the most recent public version but this new multitasking feature is not available? It won’t show up in Control Center or the Settings app. Here’s what to do!

Stage Manager not available on older iPads
First, be aware that this feature does not work with all iPad models compatible with iPadOS 16.
According AppleStage Manager only appears on:
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation and later)
- 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation and later)
- ipad air (5th gen.)
Do: Stage Manager does not work with iPad Air (3rd and 4th generation), iPad mini 4 and 5, iPad 5th to 8th generation.
How to Fix Scene Manager Not Showing
If your iPad is updated to iPadOS 16.1 or later and it’s a compatible model, make sure the feature is turned on in Settings:
- 1. Open Home screen and multitasking menu.
- 2. Press Manager.
- 3. Activate “Using Stage Manager on iPad”.
Manager at the control center
You can quickly enable or disable this feature from the control center. Add it here by following these steps:
Settings -> Control Center -> Scene Manager (press green ‘+’ next to it and drag and drop to position the toggle in the desired order).
Point: If Stage Manager isn’t working or has stopped working, we recommend restarting the iPad and functionality should return!
Scene manager not showing for external display?
Although this new multitasking feature worked in the beta testing stages of iPadOS 16.1 with external displays, Apple decided to retire the feature in the public release.
Apparently it was for glitch and it needs finer tuning. We expect it to roll out in iPadOS 16.2
