Although the default Messages app supports a video size limit of 100MB, it takes more. You can reduce video size on android, but it does impact the overall video quality. Instead, you can use the tricks below and send great videos from your Android phone without breaking a sweat.
There are several ways to send large videos on Android. It entirely depends on your preferences as to how you want to share videos from your phone. You can use instant messaging apps, Google Photos, or third-party apps like Sharik to complete the job. Without further ado, let’s get started.
1. Use Google Photos
The default gallery app on Android is not limited to managing or editing photos. It is an ideal media backup service for storing and sharing videos and photos on the go.
You need to upload your videos to the Google Photos platform and generate a shareable link. Before you begin, make sure you have enough Google Drive storage space on your account.
Step 1: Open Google Drive on your Android phone.
2nd step: Tap the Hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the upper right corner and check the remaining storage space for your account.
If you’re low on storage, read our dedicated guide to freeing up Drive space. You can also upgrade to one of the Google One plans to unlock more space for your account. You can also get premium editing features of Google Photos, Google VPN, and priority support with your subscription.
When you have enough storage space on your Drive account, upload your great video and share it by following the steps below.
Step 1: Launch Google Photos on your phone.
2nd step: Long press the video and select Save at the bottom.
Step 3: Once the video is uploaded, select the video and tap the share button at the bottom.
Step 4: Select “Create link”.
Step 5: When Google Photos generates the link, copy it and share it via email or your favorite social media app.
2. Send large videos as a file on WhatsApp
WhatsApp no longer limits file sharing to only 100MB in size. In May 2022, the Meta-owned company announced an increase in the file sharing limit from 100MB to 2GB. You can easily share up to 2GB of video on WhatsApp using the trick below.
Step 1: Save the recipient’s number on your Android phone.
2nd step: Launch WhatsApp and open the corresponding chat thread.
Step 3: Tap the attachment icon and select “Document”.
Step 4: Select “Browse other documents”.
Step 5: Filter your files by Videos using the top menu.
Step 6: Select up to 2 GB of video and send it via WhatsApp without any problem.
3. Share up to 4 GB of videos on Telegram
With 4K and 8K video recording becoming the norm, it is easy to record videos larger than 2 GB. In this case, the above trick works for sharing large videos on WhatsApp.
You have to use Telegram to send such large videos. If you have a Telegram Premium subscription, you can share videos up to 4 GB on the platform. Telegram Premium costs $5 per month in the US and unlocks many features for your account.
Step 1: Launch Telegram on your phone.
2nd step: Select a thread and tap the pin icon.
Step 3: File open.
Step 4: Open device gallery or internal storage to send large videos without compression.
