Top 7 Ways to Fix Screen Share Not Working on Discord

Discord has become the preferred communication platform for gamers in recent times. It allows us to interact with other players via text, voice and video calls. But most of us use it to share our screen with others and show what is happening on the screen. But if you’re unable to live stream your gaming session because screen sharing isn’t working, you’ve come to the right place.

Best Ways To Fix Screen Sharing Not Working On Discord

If Discord doesn’t allow you to screen share, or if your fellow users see a black screen instead, this guide has a few troubleshooting methods you can use to resolve the issue. So, without further ado, let’s check it out.

1. Run Discord as administrator

Such screen sharing issues in Discord can arise if the app does not have the proper permissions. To resolve this issue, you can try running Discord with administrator rights.

To open Discord with administrative privileges, right-click on the Discord app icon and select Run as administrator from the resulting menu.

Likewise, if you are having trouble sharing a particular game or program screen, also try launching it with administrator privileges.

2. Switch to windowed mode

It’s important to know that Discord only supports screen sharing for windowed apps and games. So if the game or program you are trying to showcase is in full screen mode, viewers may see a black screen in their Discord app. Try switching the app to windowed mode and see if screen sharing works now.

3. Make sure the app is added to your profile

If Discord is unable to detect the screen of the current game or program you’re in, it may be failing to present it on Screen Share. You can try adding the game or program to your activity status to see if that helps.

Step 1: Launch the Discord app on your PC and click on the gear icon next to your username to open settings.

4. Disable the latest technology from Discord

The Discord app is set to use the ‘latest tech’ option while sharing the screen by default. But if you have any problems doing so, it is recommended that you turn it off.

Step 1: Launch the Discord app on your PC and click on the gear icon at the bottom left to open the settings.

2nd step: Switch to the Voice & Video tab and scroll down to the Screen Sharing section. Turn off the toggle next to the “Use our latest technology to capture your screen” option.

5. Disable hardware acceleration in Discord

Some graphics-intensive tasks are assigned to your GPU instead of the CPU to manage your system resources more efficiently when hardware acceleration is enabled. But if your PC is old, it can also work against you and lead to such screen sharing issues. Therefore, you can try disabling hardware acceleration on Discord to see if that helps.

Step 1: In the Discord app, click the gear icon next to your username to open settings.

2nd step: Switch to the Voice and Video tab and locate the “H.264 hardware acceleration” option. Then turn it off.
