Top 5 Ways to Remove Followers on Instagram
When it comes to Instagram followers, “the more the merrier” is exactly the philosophy many people follow. However, by recklessly allowing strangers to follow you, you are also inviting bullies, spammers, and trolls to engage with you. If you’ve already made the mistake of doing so, you may want to consider removing a few of these less likable followers from your Instagram account.
Cyberbullying is one thing on Instagram. Fortunately, the platform offers various ways to remove unwanted subscribers from your profile. We will all discuss it and more. So let’s get started.
1. Manually delete followers on Instagram
If you already know the usernames of the accounts you no longer want to be followed, here is the easiest way to delete followers on Instagram.
Step 1: Launch the Instagram app on your Android or iPhone. Switch to the profile tab and tap Followers at the top to see a list of people following you.
2nd step: Use the search bar or scroll through the list to find the subscriber you want to remove. Tap the Remove button next to their username. Tap Delete again when prompted.
2. Remove people you don’t follow on Instagram
If your account is set to public, your follower count might be filled with people you don’t know. Luckily, Instagram also ranks your followers, making it easy to identify people you’re not following. Read on to find out how to remove them.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your phone. Go to the profile tab and tap on the Subscribers option at the top.
2nd step: Under Categories, tap “Accounts you don’t follow”. In the list, find the person you don’t want to be followed and press the Remove button. Choose Remove again when prompted.
3. Remove people with the least interaction on Instagram
Your Instagram profile is bound to have a few followers that you don’t interact with. These include bots, inactive users, or fake accounts. Luckily, Instagram also lists people you haven’t had a lot of interactions with, making it easy for them to stop following you. Read on to find out how.
Step 1: Launch the Instagram app, go to your profile and tap the Followers option at the top.
2nd step: Under Categories, tap the “Least Interacted With” option.
Step 3: You’ll see a list of accounts that you haven’t interacted with much in the past 90 days. Tap the Delete button next to their account name to prevent them from following you.
4. Block a follower on Instagram
If removing the subscriber does not prevent them from sending repeated follow-up or messaging requests, you might consider blocking the subscriber completely.
To block a user on Instagram, go to their profile, tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner, and select Block from the menu that appears. Then you can choose whether or not to block all the accounts that the user can create. Make the appropriate choice and press the Block button to continue.
When blocked, the other person won’t be able to see your posts, stories, or reels even if your account is set to Public.
5. Restrict a follower on Instagram
While you can easily block someone to prevent them from accessing your profile or leaving out poorly worded comments, it can make it difficult if you know that person in real life. To avoid such situations, Instagram also allows you to restrict someone to limit their interactions with your account without actually deleting them.
Read on to learn how to restrict a follower on Instagram.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your phone and navigate to the Profile tab at the bottom left. Now press the three horizontal lines and select Settings from the resulting menu.
2nd step: Go to Privacy, scroll to the Connections section, and tap Restricted accounts.
Step 3: Now use the search bar to find the user you want to restrict and hit the Restrict button next to their account name.
When restricted, subscriber comments on your posts will not be visible to anyone except you and them. Also, any messages they send will show up in requests and Instagram won’t let you know. However, restricting them does not prevent them from identifying you.
