How to Create Image Collages in Google Photos on PC

There are two methods for creating collages on the web version of Google Photos.

Note: Both methods allow you to create collages only for images stored in Google Photos. You can’t create collages for photos stored in your computer’s local folders in Google Photos unless and until you upload them to Google Photos.

Method 1

Step 1: Open photos.google.com on your computer using any browser. Sign in with your Google account.

2nd step: Click the For You option on the left sidebar. Then, in the “Create New” section, click Paste.

Step 3: Select the photos you want to add to your collage by clicking on them. You can select only about 2 to 9 images and the selected ones will appear with a blue check mark. Click the image again if you want to deselect it. After choosing images for your collage, click the Create button in the upper right corner of the screen.

Google Photos will automatically create a photo collage and it will be stored in Google Photos. You can also access it using the Google Photos mobile apps.

Note: Collages created with Google Photos will have a Collage label at the top. Only you can see this label.

Method 2

Step 1: Open photos.google.com in a browser on your PC.

2nd step: On the main Google Photos screen, select the photos you want to add to your collage. To select a photo, hover your mouse over the image and click the checkbox. The checkbox will turn blue. Click on the other images to select up to 9 photos. Once all the images are selected, click the add icon (+) at the top. Select Collage from the menu.

Similar to the previous method, Google will offer you an automatically generated collage which will be stored in Google Photos. You can share it with others using the Share icon.

How to Create Photo Collages in Google Photos on Android and iOS

As you know, Google Photos works as a gallery app and a mobile photo storage service. So, you can create photo collages for the images stored in Google Photos and also from your local photos. There are two ways you can create a collage of images on the Google Photos app on Android, iPhone, and iPad.

Method 1: Create a collage on Android and iOS

This method works on Android and iOS. It allows you to create collages from photos taken from your camera and those stored in the Google Photos cloud. On iOS, you can create collages from all the photos available on your phone using this method.

Here are the steps of this method:

Step 1: Launch the Google Photos app on your mobile or tablet.

2nd step: On the main screen, touch and hold the first photo you want to include in your collage. A blue check mark will appear on it. Now select other photos up to 9 that should be in your collage.

Pro tip: Another way to create a collage for camera, cloud, and device images is to go to the Library tab at the bottom of the Google Photos app. Then tap Utilities> Collage.

Method 2: Create Collages from Images in Other Folders on Android

To create collage from other folders like Downloads, Screenshots, WhatsApp images etc. on your Android phone use this method.

Step 1: Open the Google Photos mobile app on your Android device.

Step 3: In the “Photos on device” section, tap the folder containing your images from which you want to create a collage.

Step 4: Touch and hold the desired photo in your collage. A blue check mark indicates that the photo is selected. Tap other photos to select them.

Once selected, tap the add icon (+) and choose Collage from the menu. Google Photos will generate the collage.

Note: To create a collage from images stored in different folders, you need to move them to a single folder and then use method 2.

How to edit and organize images in a collage in Google Photos

As you must have noticed in all of the above methods, Google Photos automatically generates the collage once you select the images. It does not allow these photos to be edited individually. You can’t crop the area the collage should display or choose how the collage appears. Basically, you can’t organize images in Google Photos. This is done automatically by Google Photos.

However, once the collage is created, you can edit the final image as a whole. You can apply various filters to the collage, adjust light and color, and even rotate and crop the collage. How to restore and download the original collage from Google Photos

The newly edited image will replace the original collage. If you want to recover the original collage, click the Edit icon again. You will see the Cancel Edit option. Click on it.

You can also click the three dots icon in the upper right corner of the edited image. Select Download Original from the menu.

How to edit collage in Google Photos on Android, iPhone, and iPad

Open the collage in the Google Photos app. Tap the Edit icon at the bottom. Apply filters or crop and rotate the collage as needed. Finally, tap Save Copy to save the edited collage.

Note: If you delete a photo added in a collage from Google Photos, it will have no impact on your collage. Likewise, if you delete a collage, the individual images added to the collage will not be deleted from your phone or Google Photos.
