When scanning a document using the printer + scanner. if you receive an error saying – There was a problem that prevented the document from being scanned.then in this post we will share solutions to solve this problem.
There was a problem that prevented the document from being scanned.
Many users have reported that when they try to scan their document, they receive a two-layer error message. The first screen displays an error message "Error while applying the settings to the driver."The following error message says:"There was a problem that prevented the document from being scanned."In the end, the analysis is not complete, which cancels the entire process of buying a printer with a scanner.
The two error messages indicate two different things. We are talking about the driver, and the second points to a problem of digitization. So here are two solutions that you must try:
- Reset the printer settings or reinstall the printer
- Edit the registry for still image devices
1) Reset the printer settings or reinstall the printer
Each printer comes with OEM software. These programs offer to reset the settings to change everything by default. If this does not work, it is best to uninstall the printer and associated drivers. Restart the computer and add it again to check if it resolves the problem.
- Go to Settings> Devices> Printers and Scanners
- Select the printer and choose Remove Device.
If you do not want to remove the device, you can use the device and printer troubleshooter available under Manage Printers. Select the printer, and then click Manage.
Here you have the option to run Troubleshooting.
2) Edit the registry for still image devices
Windows has registry settings for still image devices, that is, scanners. They have vendor-specific settings, and if it's corrupted or misconfigured, the error – a problem preventing the document from being scanned, will display.
- Create a system restore point first.
- Then open the Registry Editor with the help of the prompt.
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control StillImage
- Right click on it and delete it.
Restart the computer and Windows will re-create everything with the default settings.
Windows 10 allows still image applications, that is, scanner applications, to store custom and device-specific values in the registry.
If the settings are not correct, this creates a problem when you want to scan a document.
Finally, you can also choose to update the driver for the printer, but there are still chances that it has caused a problem. If there is anything with the driver, the installation and reinstallation of the printer will fix the problem.
We hope these troubleshooting tips were easy to understand and helped you solve the problem.
