Locating files and text from Windows 10 is not difficult at all. Microsoft has made sure to significantly improve search capacity, and today search is much better compared to Windows 8 and Windows 7. For the first time in years, there are many of us. at TheWindowsClub to take advantage of the search from the operating system. Despite the quality of the built-in search functionality, it is still not ideal for advanced users as it lacks many of the necessary features. And that's good because Microsoft always has to design such tools to make sure that they can be used by anyone.
Now if you are looking for something to significantly improve your search, we would like to recommend you Agent Ransack. It is a free alternative search tool for Windows. It is free for personal and commercial use, which is very nice.
Agent Ransack (Lite) Finder for Windows PC
What we have here in Agent Ransack is one of the best tools for locating files on your computer, so keep reading on how to use it fully. Let's talk in more detail about this impressive program.
1) Select the free version
When loading Ransack agent for the first time, the tool will choose from three options. One is the professional edition where you need to register and buy, the second, again, is the professional edition, but this time you have to log in with your paid account.
The third is therefore the free version, and it does not include all the features, as expected. But it's good for regular users, so don't worry.
Agent Ransack (LITE), which is the official name of the free version, comes with many decent features, and that's good because it means there is no need to spend a penny.
2) Perform a search
When you're ready to search, just type the name of the file in the search box and press Enter. To make things even more interesting, the user can add text to the Containing Text section to more easily find files or documents.
Below that is the ability to select where to look on the hard drive, and that is something that we consider standard today. Additionally, user can improve search results by date, file size and subfolders.
If you go to the tab that says Dates, you will have the option to do even more when searching for items based on their dates.
3) Get a file report
After performing a search, you should now see the results with all of the options available. The user can then check any of the files they have chosen and report if they wish. Just click on the Reports tab on the right, then choose to copy, save or print.
People can also change the style of the report, but keep in mind that some selections are grayed out and only available in the premium version of Agent Ransack. If you're ready to throw money, do it and get your hands on all the premium features.
4) Configuration
Maybe Agent Ransack's default state is not your thing and you'd prefer to make some changes. OK, we understand, that's why we're going to be discussing the options area or the configuration as it's called.
This area is found under the Tools section and allows the user to perform a few actions. From there, users can decide whether they want the program to record a history of certain actions taken or clear the history after closing.
Also, if the shell integration is not on your radar, delete it. Yes, it is enabled by default, but only to a certain extent. The user has the option to go further here, but also to limit the integration if necessary.
Do you want to configure the extensions? No problem, it is possible, indeed. By default, the Ransack agent can automatically detect UTF-8 files, but fortunately, the option is there to disable it.
Overall, what we have here is a quality tool, although it is not easy to understand right away due to the user interface. Still, that doesn't mean it's bad, so in that sense, we have to recommend it. You can download Agent Ransack via the official site.
