Microsoft has published a guide on Windows 10, which is extremely useful if you are new to Windows 10 or have just migrated from Windows 7 after support has ended. If you fall into this category, there are many things that have changed and you should not miss the guide. Microsoft has covered the basics to help you get up and running on Windows 10 without much hassle.
Quick Start Guide for Windows 10
Microsoft has covered the following topics in this guide.
- Understanding your office
- Configuration and customization
- Applications and programs
- Tips and tricks
- Security, confidentiality and protection against scams
- Accessibility
- Windows Updates and Upgrades
- Additional resources.
I have been browsing through the eBook and have been a long term user of Windows 10; I can see how well designed the guide has been. Each section has been explained so that users can understand it.
Take the example of the Start menu guide, which will be new for Windows 7 users. Each area is marked with numbers and well explained with details. This makes it easier for a new user to understand. The guide also contains links to several videos if they wish to see a visual of the guide step by step.
I'm going to talk about some of my favorite topics here.
Security and confidentiality
Microsoft has taken a lot of effort for security and privacy. Microsoft Security Essentials has upgraded to Windows Security. It can protect against ransomware. You can also choose the data sharing mode. Permissions allow you to configure permission for hardware devices such as camera and microphone.
Windows Updates and Upgrades
Windows updates are one of the best features that Windows 7 users can take advantage of. It's less boring and users have more control. You can choose to configure it to download it manually and update it when you want or pause it and decide what to do in case of a feature update. Other than that, Windows 10 has only received feature updates twice a year in the past 5 years. Microsoft seems to have stopped releasing a new version of Windows and instead of updating the same Windows with new features. In the future, companies will have to worry less about compatibility and migration.
Tips and tricks
Much like the way Windows 7 has its set of tips and tricks, there are tons for Windows 10. Microsoft talked about keyboard shortcuts to speed up daily use, Windows Explorer, option to boot into recovery mode advanced from Windows, the option to install or move Windows 10 apps to another Drive, and more.
They have also done a lot of work in accessibility. Ease of access to dictation for easy navigation on the device is one of them, which makes it easy for anyone with special needs.
Switch from Windows 7 to Windows 10
Finally, Microsoft has also addressed this subject. They explained the end of Windows 7 support, Windows 10 system requirements, upgrading or purchasing, and how to upgrade to a new Windows 10 PC.
If you're new to Windows 10, especially if you're switching from Windows 7, you need to download and read this Windows 10 quick start guide.
