Are you worried that your recently purchased MagSafe charger is not genuine? It’s a legitimate doubt if you haven’t bought it from an Apple Store or official retailer. Since Apple products and accessories are premium and expensive, they are often replaced with fakes and you may end up charging your iPhone with a spare MagSafe type clone.
MagSafe charger not working
Since the release of this new wireless charging method for iPhone, users have complained about issues while charging an iPhone 12 with MagSafe. In many cases, this issue was caused by an iOS 14 bug and very rarely, MagSafe chargers were labeled as faulty right out of the box.
However, recently iPhone owners who are having trouble charging wirelessly have noticed that they are using counterfeit MagSafe chargers.
How to tell if the MagSafe charger is genuine
Fortunately, it is quite easy to tell if an Apple MagSafe charger is original or not. Here are a few ways to check it:
1. Inspect the box
If you are purchasing a brand new MagSafe charger, you can check the box. If the accessory is new, a green seal should be found near the lid, at the top of the box.
Second, you can check the bottom of the box. A sticker with the model number and serial number must be available

2. Check the brands
Apple MagSafe charging washer has black color R-NZ marking on the side, next to the jack. If you can’t find it, the chances of the product being fake increase.
I don’t know if the marking can fade over time due to the usual wear and tear. However, take the final step to make sure the Apple MagSafe charger is genuine.
3. Check the model number in iPhone settings
- Connect your iPhone to the MagSafe charger and plug the accessory into a power outlet.
- Unlock iPhone and Open Settings.
- Search General -> About.
- Scroll to Apple MagSafe Charger.
