How to Convert JPG to PNG in Paint 3D on Windows PC

Paint 3D is a modern upgrade from classic Microsoft Paint. The improved image editor allows you to work with 2D and 3D images. And it also supports PNG images. Method 1: How to save PNG files with a background in Paint 3D

If you are just looking to convert your JPG image to PNG in Paint 3D without removing the background, this method will do the trick.

Here’s how to save an image as a PNG file.

Step 1: Launch the Microsoft Paint 3D application and open the JPG or any image file you want to save as PNG format using Menu> Open> Browse Files.

You will see the image extension in the upper left corner of Paint 3D.

2nd step: Once the JPG image is open in Paint 3D, click the Menu option again, then click Save As. Select Image under Choose File Format.

Step 3: The Save As dialog box opens. Click the drop-down list next to Save as type. Choose 2D-PNG from the list and click Save. That’s all. You have successfully converted JPG to PNG in Paint 3D on your Windows computer without using any third party application.

Method 2: How to save transparent PNG images with no background in Paint 3D

Now let’s come to the main query that most of the users want to know – how to save transparent PNGs in Paint 3D. Well, there are two aspects to this. First, you created an image in Paint 3D itself and now you want to save it as a transparent PNG file. Second, you have a JPG image that you want to convert to PNG but without its background. Users mainly seek to save such files when dealing with logos.

Case 1: Save the PNG image created in Paint 3D

Create an image in Paint 3D. Adjust its size using the available borders. Then click on the Canvas tab at the top when you are done with your design, or you can also do that at the start. On the Canvas tab, turn on the toggle for transparent canvas.

This will remove the existing white background from your image.

Now go to Menu> Save As> Image like we did in the above method.

You have to be very careful with the two steps mentioned now. First, make sure that PNG (Image) is selected under Save as type. And, the box next to Transparency is checked. Check both things. If one of them is incorrectly selected, your final image will not be transparent. Finally, click on the Save button at the bottom to save your PNG file.

Case 2: Convert JPG to transparent PNG without background in Paint 3D

As mentioned earlier, JPG files do not support background transparency. So if you want to remove the background from your image file or already have a file without a background, you need to convert it to PNG to keep the transparency. I extracted the flower and removed the background using the Magic Select tool.

Now when you have a JPG file with transparent background in Paint 3D, click Menu at the top and go to Save As> Image.

Then choose PNG (Image) under Save as type and check the box next to Transparency. This step is crucial to save transparent PNG files, otherwise your image will have a background. If the Paint dialog box opens, verify that PNG is selected under Save as type.
