What are footnotes and endnotes in Microsoft Word

Footnotes and endnotes help you display additional information in Microsoft Word at the end of a page or document. They work like a “postscript”.

You can add multiple footnotes on each page, but you can’t do the same with Endnote. An endnote should be posted at the end of the document. In other words, Endnote can only appear on the last page of your document.

When writing a project or documentation, you may need to add a few lines on a topic, which you cannot insert in the middle of the existing paragraph and this is where the footnotes and help.

Footnotes appear as 1, 2, etc. while the end note appears as “i”.
