Launch Google Assistant with Power Button on OnePlus Devices

Earlier, we covered a guide for Samsung users outlining the ways to remap the Bixby button to launch Google Assistant. When OnePlus launched the OnePlus 5T, it got rid of the home button. It meant that the company had to make some changes. The fingerprint reader went to the back and the company also presented its version of the navigation gestures. It wasn't perfect at the time, but OnePlus has improved them over the years. Today, they are more fluid, consistent and overall very good. But there is still no move to launch the Google Assistant. OnePlus has found a new solution by allowing users to launch Google Assistant with the power button, likely inspired by the Google Assistant button on many phones.

Launch Google Assistant on OnePlus

Go to the settings of your OnePlus phone running OxygenOS to get started. Then go to and select Buttons and gestures. At the bottom of the list of available options is a toggle titled Quickly activate the assistant application. Tap the toggle to activate it. You can also quickly select any other Assistant application you want to use instead, by tapping the text. Once the toggle is activated, the power button on your OnePlus gains additional power (or functionality).

As the description subtext below the label indicates, you can now launch Google Assistant by pressing and holding the power button for half a second (0.5 seconds ). To view the power menu, you won't have to press the power button for three seconds. At first, it definitely takes a while to get used to it. You may be bothered by the number of times you accidentally launch Googe Assistant instead of the Power menu if you use the Power menu a lot. Now, invoking the Google Assistant should be fairly easy. Half a second isn't too long, so the power button more or less looks like a dedicated Google Assistant button. The one you don't accidentally press on all the time. The setup looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. For those who don't know, the Note 10's Bixby button can also be used as a power button. It might also be more practical or intuitive for some. Especially compared to the gestures of scanning the lower corners to launch Google Assistant.
