Screensaver not working in Windows 10

The Windows Club

Screen savers are animated visuals that appear on your system screen after the system has been idle for a while. However, sometimes the screen saver does not start or stops working for various reasons. In the case where the screen saver does not work in your Windows 10 system, this article can help you.

Screen saver doesn’t work in Windows 10

Previously, screen savers were required for CRT monitors, because the monitor background could become discolored if the screen was not to be changed for a long time. This is not the case with modern monitors, but screen savers are required to hide the information. On many computers, screen savers are not enabled by default. In other cases, Windows updates may disable the screen savers and you need to change the settings.

If you’re having trouble with the screen saver not working in Windows 10, try updating Windows 10. If that doesn’t help, do the following solutions sequentially:

  1. Check the screen saver settings
  2. Check standby settings
  3. Keep your mouse clean and away from polished surfaces
  4. Unplug peripherals
  5. Restore default power settings
  6. Use the power troubleshooter
  7. Update display or graphics drivers
  8. Run an SFC scan.

Let’s see them in detail.

1]Check the screen saver settings

The screen saver may well be disabled. This can be a default setting or a change after a Windows update. Some third-party programs are also known to modify these settings. The screen saver settings can be checked as follows:

Search for “screen saver” in the Windows search bar and select the option Change screen saver. This will open the Screen saver settings page.

If the screen saver is set to , the screen saver is disabled. In this case, you can replace it with any other option of your choice in the drop-down menu.

Select the Wait time of your choice.

Hit Apply then Okay to save the settings.

2]Check standby settings

If your sleep settings are set to turn off the screen or sleep before the screen saver can activate, you will never see it. So set your screen saver to activate, say after 5 minutes, and your PC to sleep (Disable display time setting) after, say 10 minutes.

3]Keep your mouse clean and away from polished surfaces

The slightest movement of a mouse counts as movement for the system. If an optical mouse is impure or kept on a polished surface, it will continue to record movements and thus the screen saver may not appear. To isolate this probability, clean the bottom of the mouse and keep it on white paper for a while. If the screen saver still does not appear, continue to the next solution.

4]Unplug peripherals

When connected to the system, some devices send a message that the computer does not need to rest because the device is at work. In many cases, this instruction is encoded in the pilots.

In this situation, you can try unplugging all devices and check if the screen saver appears. If so, reconnect the devices one at a time to determine which one caused the bug. Now it’s up to you to decide whether or not to keep the device.

5]Restore default power settings

The screen saver is governed by the system power settings. If a Windows update or third-party software spoils the power settings, the screen saver may not work properly. In this case, you can reset the default power settings as follows:

Press Win + R to open the Run window and type the command powercfg.cpl. Press Enter to open the Power options window.

Click on Change plan settings corresponding to your current diet plan.

Change plan settings

To select Restore default settings for this plan and hit Yes.

Restore default settings for this plan

This will restore the default power settings. Check if it helps with the screen saver.

6]Use the power troubleshooter

The Power Troubleshooter can resolve issues related to power settings. The procedure to run the power troubleshooter is as follows:

Click on Start and go to Settings> Updates and security> Troubleshooting.

Select the Solving power issues from the list and run it.

Run the power troubleshooter

Restart the system and check if it solves your problem with the screen saver.

7]Update display or graphics drivers

Update your graphics drivers and see if that helps. If you recently updated them, cancel and see. Otherwise, you can download the drivers and reinstall them.

8]Run an SFC scan

Missing or corrupted system files can cause the problem in the chat. The SFC scan helps to check for missing files on the system and replace them if necessary.

I hope something here will help you.
