The Windows command prompt is a command line tool that helps you run various commands. You can also run the CMD with elevated privileges. But some users have encountered a problem, where they find that they cannot. But in recent days, many users have stated that they cannot run the command prompt as an administrator. When they try to do that – nothing happens!

Command prompt will not run as administrator

If you can’t run the command prompt as an administrator on Windows 10, then one of these suggestions is sure to help:

  1. Create a shortcut for the command prompt
  2. Create a new user account
  3. Try to use safe mode
  4. Other ways to open an elevated command prompt
  5. Repair the system image.

Let’s see them in detail.

1]Create a shortcut for the command prompt

To create a shortcut, right click on the desktop and select New> Shortcut. In the Create Shortcut dialog box, type the following location, and then click next Continue.

C:WindowsSystem32cmd.exe

On the next screen, enter a name for this shortcut. After that click on finish to create it.

Once the shortcut is added to the desktop, right click on it and select Properties from the context menu. On the Shortcut cmd Properties wizard tab, click the Advanced button.

To protect your device from unauthorized activity, mark the Execute as administrator check box when a context menu appears on the screen. And, click on the Okay button.

That’s it. Now double-click the newly created shortcut to start the command prompt as an administrator.

2]Create a new user account to run the command prompt as an administrator

An interruption when opening a high order problem can be associated with the user account. This is because this situation occurs when the user account is corrupted or damaged. In this case, you must create a new user account to quickly resolve the problem.

3]Try to use safe mode

If unfortunately none of the above solutions help you to fix the problem, then you need to open your Windows 10 PC in Safe Mode, as this is a great place to find the actual troubleshooting issues.

Once you are in Safe Mode, try to verify the problem by running the elevated command prompt. If you do not find any problem during verification, you should start to resolve the problem in a minimal boot state.

4]Other ways to open an elevated command prompt

See if any of the other ways to open it work for you.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager. Click the File menu> Run a new task. To open a command prompt window, type cmd. Remember to check the Create this task with administrative privileges check box. Then press Enter.
  2. You can also open an elevated command prompt from Task Manager by using the CTRL key.
  3. Or just open the Start menu and start typing the command line. Then hold the Shift and Ctrl keys, then press Enter to open the command line at an elevated command prompt.
  4. Open an elevated command prompt using CMD
  5. Run commands from the Windows Startup Search box as an administrator
  6. Run the commands in the Explorer address bar.

5]Repair system image

If nothing helps, you may need to repair the system image using the DISM command.

Good luck!
