Search files inside a mobile phone from your PC using MobileFileSearch

The latest NirSoft offer is MobileFileSearch. This is a tool for Windows 10 that allows a user to search for files in a mobile device, be it a smartphone or tablet while plugged into the computer via USB. This is enabled by using the MTP or Media Transfer Protocol on the mobile device. It can then be sorted or filtered based on the file name, the full access path, the object name, the object ID, and the time of creation, time of modification, etc. After finding the files on your smartphone / tablet, you can optionally delete them, copy them to a folder on your computer or export the file list in CSV / tab-delimited file / HTML / XML / JSON format.

Run the downloaded executable file while your phone is connected via USB and the list of contents of your phone will be filled. This tool will only work if the mobile device is connected in MTP mode. If it is connected to mass storage, this tool would be of no use.

Once the list is filled in, a user can always search for a particular file. Under the Search Options window, the following options are available:

• Device.
• Basic files.
• Depth of subfolders.
• Wildcard.
• The file size is at least.
• The file size is at maximum.
• Time created.
• Time changed.

If you have multiple devices connected to your computer and used in the MobileFileSearch software, this will help you refine the search on a particular device and speed it up.

If the folders in the database are not specified, the search will be performed throughout the device.

Wildcards made it easy to search for a file with a particular name attribute or particular extensions.
