Something happened and we couldn't start the upgrade

The price of different versions of Windows 10 is different. The Windows 10 Pro version is considerably more expensive than the Windows 10 Home version. Fortunately, Microsoft allows its users to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro at a reasonable cost, rather than buying back the entire license.

The problem is caused by problems with the Microsoft Store or a key authorization. Try the following solutions sequentially to solve the problem:

  1. Run the Microsoft Account Troubleshooting Utility
  2. Run Windows Update Troubleshooting
  3. Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter
  4. Reset the Windows Store cache
  5. Re-register the Windows Store app
  6. Contact Microsoft Support.

1) Run the Microsoft Accounts Troubleshooter

3) Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter

The Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter is a great tool to analyze and troubleshoot problems with the Windows Store on your Windows 10 system. The procedure to run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter is as follows:

Click the Start button, then select Settings> Updates and Security> Troubleshoot.

Look for the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter in the list and run it.

Restart the computer and check if you can upgrade the version of Windows 10 now.

4) Reset the Windows Store cache

One of the main causes of problems with the Windows Store is the corrupted cache of the Windows Store. In such a situation, we can clear or reset the Windows Store cache to fix the problem.

5) Reinstall / re-register the Windows Store application

If the above solutions do not work, you may consider reinstalling the Windows Store application. Since the application is integrated, you can not uninstall it as normal third-party programs. The process would require the use of Powershell commands.

6) Contact Microsoft Support
