The Danger of using cheap USB Cables and Chargers on your PC

The Windows Club

We all like to find it too good to be true on the items we love. One of these is electronics and, more specifically, USB cables and chargers. It is dangerous to use cheap USB cables and chargers. We all know these cables so cheap that they are difficult to resist. Not all cheap USB cables and chargers are bad, but in most cases, you get what you pay for. These inexpensive USB cables and chargers can actually damage your PC and other devices.

Cheap USB cables and chargers can damage your PC

When USB cables and chargers are not properly made, they can damage your PC and other devices. This may be due to, but not limited to, several factors, these will be discussed in detail.

  1. Overheating due to inexpensive components
  2. Breakages / shortages happen easily and can damage PC and other devices
  3. Overheating due to overload
  4. A break / lack will cause a tear in the insulation

We will examine them in more detail below.

1]Overheating due to inexpensive components

When USB cables and chargers are not made of suitable materials and components, they may overheat as they may not be rated for the voltage they will carry. Overheating can be caused by wires that are too large or too small for the load they have to carry. This overheating will eventually compromise the integrity of the wires and their insulation, making them more harmful to your PC, phones and other devices to which they are connected. When the wires are broken, they lose the ability to transmit enough energy to the devices, which causes them to overheat.

2]Breakages / shortages happen easily and can damage PC and other devices

Breaks / shortages will occur more easily in inexpensive USB cables and chargers because they come from unreliable materials. When there is a shortage of wires, they are likely to touch each other, which can also cause overheating. When the USB cables are damaged, they can overload the USB component of the PC and damage the internal components. You might receive an error message saying; “A component requires more power than what can be supplied.” This can then damage the internal components of the PC or make them temporarily unavailable.

3]Overheating due to overload

Good quality USB cable and chargers are not necessarily designed to handle the charge required to charge a device. They overheat and when they overheat, the integrity of the wires and the insulation will eventually be compromised. Whenever the wire has to carry more or less electricity than expected, it will produce heat, in the wires and also in the device. There is also a danger for the user as it can cause fires. Many users sleep with devices on their beds or other flammable materials (cloth, paper, etc.). These inexpensive cables and chargers can eventually heat up the PC or other devices and cause a fire.

4]A break / shortage will eventually lead to holes in the insulation

A break / shortage will eventually compromise the insulation that is supposed to protect the wires. When the wires touch each other, they short out and can damage PC components or cause them to malfunction. Since you pay so much for your PC and other devices, it would be wise to invest in real USB cables and chargers.

Conclusion

Cheap USB cables and chargers can do more damage than good, they can cost less, but they can do a lot of damage. It is best to use tested and tested items to connect to your PC and other devices. And if you think about it, cheap USB cables and chargers aren’t cheap, they don’t last long, you end up spending more to buy new ones in no time. If we all remember when we only used authentic devices, the cables and chargers that came with them usually lasted quite a long time. It is better to opt for the best, you will be happier in the long run.
