The OnePlus Nord 2 Pac-Man Edition captures the spirit of the iconic video game character and channels the 8-bit retro aesthetic.
The OnePlus Nord 2 PacMan Edition
However, the OnePlus Nord 2 PacMan Edition is a strange beast. The Shenzhen-based company has a history of unique works for its flagship series. From the McLaren edition that infuses the Avengers-style phone with a sense of speed that overlays the hyped skirts that surround the latest Marvel movies. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter Edition OnePlus watch complements Potter’s evergreen mania with a series of monogrammed leather dials and straps. On the other hand, the PacMan edition does not make obvious sense. Pac-Man may have solidified his position in video game history, but it’s not easy to call him a systems seller.
While the characters themselves are recognizable, they’re less appealing to young viewers than the cyberpunk version of the OnePlus 8T, which looked like a prop straight out of the video game. If I argue that the whimsical balls escaping from ghosts might be a OnePlus analogy escaping from their enthusiastic past, I dig deep into the foil realm, but I digress.
The OnePlus Nord 2 PacMan Edition is simply a showcase for companies that value cooperation with brands. The phone is a classic example of a playful nostalgic compliment to one of our earliest memories of collective video games. In fact, it’s no exaggeration to say that the company’s first limited-edition midrange edition is bolder and more eccentric than ever with OnePlus. This is the reason why I am here.
At first glance, only the dotted pattern on the back wall, which is a bluish silver color, stands out. The PacMan logo is displayed under the camera module. A second logo will be placed next to the camera to mark the collaboration. However, the phone is the literal definition of a business in the foreground and a party in the background. It is a fairly simple device during the day. The design does not deviate significantly from the standard OnePlus Nord 2 and can be used as a normal Nord 2 even from a distance.
In the dark, however, the back glows with a luminous maze pattern that incorporates the reinterpreted 2.5D PacMan 256 and OnePlus elements. The glowing elements in the dark create a breathtaking visual sense and a gadget hidden in the field of vision. It’s not very far from the Easter Egg video game, and I love it.
These subtle references to the history of video games extend to the software experience. Of course, there are a few interface tweaks outlined below, but the company takes it a step further and has sprinkled Easter eggs in plenty of apps like calculators and charging experiments. I didn’t spend a lot of time on the preinstalled PacMan 256 games, but according to OnePlus, playing the game for 256 minutes unlocks a lot of photo stickers.
Elsewhere, you can find PacManthemed wallpapers, ringtones and animations. The personalized fingerprint scanner animations are especially appealing when the ghosts chase Pac-Man while unlocking the phone. I wish OnePlus had wanted a full custom icon pack, but the redesigned 8-bit icons for the standard OnePlus app are cool. The notification shade is reminiscent of an old-fashioned arcade or the original Pac-Man game with an electric blue border.
With small additions and changes, you get a software experience that goes way beyond what you’ve seen in your business. You can easily see the effort and depth of the customization here. Most importantly, all changes should be tied to a consistent and fairly enjoyable user experience. You can also add a CRT style filter and find a custom camera filter that covers the floating characters of the PacMan universe. feel good.
The adjustment also applies to mailboxes decorated with PacMan characters. Buyers of Special Editions will also be offered free Pac Man-themed desktop support. Unfortunately, I was unable to investigate in detail. Brand partnership comes in many forms. For example, the Samsung Thom Browne Edition phones take a much more modest approach with a much more simple and chic design which in my opinion is suitable for the target audience. But as someone who’s been wearing the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition for almost two years, I don’t think even this phone has taken McLaren’s place.
The OnePlus Nord 2 PacMan Edition is the exact opposite. It has the fun and enthusiastic nature of the game and really depends on the aesthetics of the game. As someone juggling dozens of phones at the same time, phones are rarely designed to be fun.
