For many reasons, screen sharing has become one of the most important features to look for in a video conferencing tool. Google Meet offers the possibility of sharing screens during a presentation but it has some shortcomings. For example, some Google Meet users can share their screens on all browsers except Firefox. If you are in a similar situation, we have listed four things that you can do to correct the anomaly.
There are many reasons why this is happening. First, opening multiple Firefox windows on your computer might disrupt Google Meet’s screen sharing permissions. Second, the screen sharing issue could be a temporary device issue. Therefore, before implementing the solutions below, close all Firefox windows and restart the browser. If the problem persists, one of the troubleshooting checks in this guide should resolve it.
1. Check Firefox privacy settings
Note: This applies to Macs running macOS Catalina v10.15 or newer. Proceed to the other fixes below if you are using Firefox on a Windows computer.
According to Apple, the content on your screen should be private. Without allowing an app to record your Mac’s screen, features like screen sharing won’t work. If you have tried to present your screen in Firefox without success, verify that the browser can capture your Mac’s display.
Step 1: Launch System Preferences and select “Security & Privacy”.
2nd step: In the Privacy tab, select Screen recording in the left pane.
Step 3: Finally, make sure Firefox is checked.
You will be prompted to close Firefox to make the change. You can do this by pressing the “Exit and Reopen” button on the prompt.
We recommend that you restart Firefox manually so that you can properly save any current work in the browser.
2. Grant the Meet Meet screen sharing permission
Like other popular web browsers in the market, Firefox also allows you to capture and share your browser window or the entire screen of your computer with supported websites. If you have an obstacle while trying to share your screen on any website, check the site’s screen sharing permissions. Go to the Google Meet tab and follow the steps below.
Step 1: Right-click anywhere on the Google Meet page and select “Show Page Info.”
2nd step: Go to the Permissions tab.
This will reveal the list of permissions related to Google Meet on your Firefox browser.
Step 3: Scroll through the permissions and check the Use default for “Share screen” permission box.
This allows Google Meet to record and share your screen during presentations. If it is enabled, uncheck the option and check it again. Also, when prompted to allow Google Meets to view your screen, be sure to select Allow after choosing the screen / window to share. Very important.
3. Try Safe Mode
Firefox add-ons are cool. They increase productivity and improve your web browsing experience. Despite their advantages, these add-ons sometimes interfere with certain browser functions. Try using Firefox without any add-ons and see if that fixes the Google Meet screen sharing issue. However, you don’t have to uninstall your add-ons. Simply run Firefox in Safe Mode, a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables all add-ons.
Step 1: Launch Firefox and tap the hamburger menu icon.
2nd step: Select Help from the menu options.
Step 3: Then select Troubleshooting Information.
Step 4: Now, tap on the “Restart with Add-ons Disabled” button.
Step 5: On the confirmation prompt, select Restart.
Note: Restarting the browser will restart all active Firefox windows. So make sure all current work is saved before continuing.
4. Refresh Firefox
This is another effective troubleshooting solution for Firefox issues large and small. Refresh, in this case, is just another word for reset. And by following the steps below, you will reset your device’s Firefox to its default settings. It will keep personal data such as bookmarks, passwords, cookies and download history. When refreshing, Firefox will remove all extensions, website permissions, and other customizations.
Refreshing the Firefox browser is very easy. First of all, you can get it with one click. Just hit the Refresh Firefox button below and follow the prompt.
Note: The Refresh Firefox link / button only works on the Firefox browser for Mac or PC, and not on mobile or other browsers.
You can also refresh Firefox from the Troubleshooting Information page.
Step 1: Type this address about: support in the address bar and press Enter on your keyboard.
This will redirect you to the Firefox troubleshooting page.
2nd step: Now press the Refresh Firefox button.
Step 3: Select Refresh Firefox on the confirmation prompt to continue.
This will close and restart Firefox. Remember to save any important tasks before refreshing the browser to lose important and unsaved jobs.
