1. Activate mobile data (iPhone)
iOS allows you to turn off mobile data for some apps to help you save data. If you have turned off mobile data for Telegram, now is the time to turn it on.
Open the Settings app and scroll down to Telegram. Enable mobile data in Telegram menu and try to download media to your phone.
2. Keep the telegram open (iPhone)
iOS is inferior in multitasking compared to Android. If you are downloading a large file of around 1 GB, you must keep the application open for a successful download process.
If you minimize it and return to the home screen. iOS can suspend Telegram activities in the background.
Keep the app open and use a high speed internet connection to quickly complete the download process.
3. Enable background download (iPhone)
This is yet another way for Telegram to keep downloading media files on iPhone even when the app is running in the background.
Step 1: Open Telegram on iPhone.

4. Enable automatic media download

2nd step: From the Auto Media Download menu, open Cellular Use and Wi-Fi Use and enable automatic media download for both.

5. Increase the maximum video upload size
In the automatic download settings, users have the option to set the maximum limit for video downloads. Let’s say you have set a limit of 100MB and the video received exceeds 100MB in the chat, then Telegram will not initiate the download process. You will need to extend the limit for downloading videos from iPhone and Android app.
Step 1: Go to Telegram settings> Data and storage> Automatic media download.
2nd step: Tap Use Wi-Fi> Videos.
Step 3: Use the slider and increase the maximum video upload size.

6. Clear telegram cache (Android)

Step 3: Go to Storage and cache and tap Clear cache on the next menu.
7. Give unlimited access to data (Android)
This mainly applies to those who use Telegram with Data Saver mode enabled. When Data Saver Mode is enabled, Android operating system may prevent Telegram from downloading media to Android.
Users must give Telegram unlimited access to data from the app’s info menu.
Step 1: Long press the Telegram icon and go to the app info menu.
2nd step: Go to the Mobile data and Wi-Fi menu and turn on the Unlimited data access toggle.
8. Check the telegram servers
Like any other internet service, Telegram also suffers from occasional outrage. The media you received on Telegram are stored on the company’s servers. If the Telegram servers are down, you will not be able to download them to your phone.
Go to downdetector and search for Telegram. Check the comments and outrage spikes and confirm Telegram’s stability. If Telegram is indeed suffering from outrage, you will also be faced with Telegram connection error.
