Now that the new Microsoft Edge based on the Chromium engine is being deployed, you may find some of the missing extensions after the upgrade process. Legacy Edge HTML and the new Edge do not use the same kernel, and therefore the migration process may have resulted in the disappearance of some browser extensions. In this article we will explain why extensions are missing in the new Edge, how you can install missign extensions and how to enable extensions if it has been disabled by Edge.
Browser extensions are missing on Edge
When you install the new Edge, it can migrate the extensions you choose as part of the data migration process. If they are available in the new Microsoft Edge Add-on Store, they will be migrated and available once the installation is complete. If they are missing, it is because the developers have not yet published their extensions in the Microsoft Edge add-ons store
How to Download Extensions Not Available in the Microsoft Edge Add-in Store
The new Microsoft Edge uses the Chromium engine, which means that most extensions on the Chrome Web Store will work on the Edge. Since the developers already have their extensions in the Chrome Store, so I suggest looking in the Chrome Add-on Store and installing it. The best part is that Microsoft officially allows you to install the Chrome extension on the Edge without any complicated procedures.
- Go to the Chrome Web Store and click Allow extensions from other stores in the banner at the top of the page.
- Find the extension you want to install, then click on the Add to Chrome button.
Why does Microsoft Edge disable some of the extensions?

If you can see the extension after migration, but notice that Microsoft Edge has disabled it, there is a reason for that. If an extension changes browser settings like the default search engine, the new tab page experience, etc., Edge disables it to protect users. Since this is a migration, the new Microsoft Edge needs your permission for these extensions to change the settings. To activate these extensions:
- Type edge: // extensions / in the new tab and then press the enter key
- Locate the extension and activate the toggle of that extension to activate it.
- You may be asked to indicate the changes that these extensions are trying to make, and once you confirm they will be activated.
I hope the message was easy to understand and that you could find out why some of the extensions were missing in the new Microsoft Edge.
First make sure to check if they have been turned off, then look for a replacement.
