You don’t have permission to create an entry in this folder – Outlook error

After finishing GSuite migration to Microsoft Office 365, you may encounter this error message when they try to create or modify contacts in the Microsoft Outlook desktop client –

You are not authorized to create an entry in this folder. Right-click the folder, and then click Properties to verify your permissions for the folder.

Here is a simple workaround for the problem. Download and use MFCMAPI application!

The above error message may also prompt you to see the owner of the folder or ask your administrator to change your permissions. The error mainly occurs because the Contacts folder is marked as “ReadOnly” by the service during migration.

To resolve this problem, manually set this property for affected users through MFCMAPI. Follow these steps:

  1. Download the MFCMAPI tool
  2. Access the Options menu
  3. Select the appropriate Microsoft Exchange message store
  4. Edit the binary value in the Properties pane

The MFCMAPI tool facilitates the investigation of Exchange and Outlook problems. It was designed only for expert users and developers. Misuse or error could destroy your mailbox data.

1]Download the MFCMAPI tool

Visit here to download the MFCMAPI app from github.com.

Start the MfcMapi.exe program that you downloaded, and then click OK.

2]Access the options menu

When the main application window appears, go to ‘Tools“And select”The options“.

Here, scroll down to locate the following,

  • Use the MDB_ONLINE flag when calling Open MsgStore
  • Use the MAPI_NO_CACHE flag when calling OpenEntry

Once found, check the boxes corresponding to these options, then click OK.

3]Select the appropriate Microsoft Exchange message store

Now go to ‘SessionIn the “menu, click on”To log in“.

Then in the ‘Profile name“, Choose the mailbox profile, then click OK.

Double click on the “Microsoft Exchange Message Store“.

4]Edit the binary value in the Properties pane

When a new window opens, go to the navigation pane, click on “Root container“.

Expand the root container to access “Top of the information bank“.

Develop ‘Top of the information bank», Then click on Contacts.

Now, in the properties pane on the right, find the property PR_EXTENDED_FOLDER_FLAGS.

Once found, double-click it, set the binary value to 010400001000, then click OK.

That’s it!

The error message You are not authorized to create an entry in this folder should no longer appear for your Outlook desktop client.
