Both brands offer their apps on their phones and not everyone likes these apps. The beauty of Android phones is that you can customize just about anything. Whether it is the contacts, launcher and even the numbering application.
We have already compared various Samsung apps with Google apps. In this article, we will compare in detail the phone application of Samsung and Google. Let them check.
Both phone applications have the normal user interface. It is also similar in many ways.
At the bottom you will find three tabs in both applications. While the Samsung phone application contains keyboards, recent messages and contacts, the Google Phone app offers favorites, recent messages and contacts. In the Google Phone app, you will find a floating button in the lower right corner of the keyboard.
In both applications, the search is at the top. While Google offers a search bar, Samsung has reserved the location only for a search icon. Keeping only the search icon hides the voice search feature, which is available directly in the Google Phone app.
In addition, you will notice that in Google applications, all icons are accompanied by text, which is not the case in the Samsung application. Although identifying call icons is not a difficult task, it is sometimes convenient to use text.
Favorites and speed dial
Dialing a number plays a crucial role in determining the superiority of the numbering application. In the Google Phone app, you can add numbers to the Favorites section, which gives a special and separate location in the bottom bar. Just below the favorites you will find another section that groups frequently dialed contacts. Unfortunately, you can not create speed dial entries in this application.
In the Samsung Phone app, you get both favorites and speed dial. However, the favorites do not have a dedicated section. You will find them under the Contacts tab. If this sounds too far away, you can keep the numbers in speed dial. To do this, touch and hold any number on the keyboard. You will be prompted to assign a contact to this number. Once set, touch and hold the same number again to dial it immediately.
Gestures to call
Gestures make our lives easy. Fortunately, the Samsung Phone application supports gestures. On the Recent screen, swipe to the right to call someone and swipe to the left to send him a message. Unfortunately, the Google Phone app does not support gestures yet. I hope Google will add more soon.
View messages in call history
If you're the type of person who likes to keep track of all communications – whether it's messages or calls, you'll love the Samsung Phone app. In this app, in addition to calls, you can also view the history of your messages. And if you do not like it, the feature can be disabled in the settings of the application. To do this, tap the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner of the Phone application and select Hide Messages. The Google Phone app does not offer this feature.
Integrated company search
The search bar at the top of the Google Phone app may seem simple, but that is not the case. It's a Google mini-search in itself. You can use it to find contact numbers for business locations near your area. To do this, type the name of the place and the corresponding results will be displayed.
To use this feature, you must enable nearby places in the application settings. To do this, tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner and select Settings. Then tap the places nearby. Turn on the rocker for nearby places. You can even enable custom search results. For this, you will need to give access to the Google Account. This feature is not available in the Samsung Phone app.
On the Recent screen you will find all the call logs. But if you want to filter the call history, the Samsung Phone app offers a better experience compared to the Google Phone app. This is because you can filter call logs into missed, rejected, outgoing, and incoming calls. This is very convenient when searching for a number in the call logs. In Google, you can filter only missed calls.
Spam protection and call blocking
Both applications allow you to block contacts without installing a third-party application. You can even block unknown callers. Regarding the protection against spam, both applications offer it. However, the anti-spam protection capacity depends on your region.
You can not use this feature regularly, but if you want to record calls, the Samsung Phone app has a built-in ability to record calls. The Google Phone app lacks this feature.
Note: The call recording feature is not available in all countries due to privacy laws. So, if the function is missing on your phone, it could be blocked there. In countries like India, you can use this feature.
The Google Phone app runs on all Android devices with Android stock. Similarly, the Samsung Phone app is limited to Samsung phones. Both apps are not available on the Play Store. You can not install them directly on another device.
The grass is greener on the other side
If you have a Samsung phone, you may think that the Google Phone app is better, and so are users with the stock of Android phones running the Google Phone app. However, as you have seen above, both offer all the important features. There is no major difference between the two.
Since you can not install either application on different devices, we suggest you try other calling apps if you want to switch providers.
