AirPods Pro Conversation Boost is now available in iOS 15, thanks to the AirPods 4A400 firmware update! This is a much loved accessibility feature that makes face-to-face conversation much easier for users with hearing impairments!

This new accessibility option focuses the beamforming microphones of AirPods Pro on the person speaking in front of you. The increased volume makes it easier for you to hear face-to-face conversations.

Practically, you can use AirPods Pro as hearing aids, when this new option is enabled. This feature is not only for users with mild hearing impairments, but also for all of us who wear masks these days as a protective measure against the COVID-19 pandemic!

  • 1. Open Settings and scroll to Accessibility.
  • 2. Press on Audio-visual available in the Audience section.
  • 3. Go for Headphones and activate the option using the toggle.
  • 4. Scroll to Transparency Mode.
  • Important: AirPods Pro must be connected to iPhone at this point, otherwise Transparency Mode will not display!

  • 5. Light up Custom transparency mode.
  • 6. To allow Conversation boost, available in the lower part of the screen.

1. Update devices

First, make sure your device is updated to iOS 15 and AirPods to version 4A400 or later. To learn how to check the firmware version of AirPods, tap here.

2. Connect the AirPods

The Transparency Mode option will not appear in accessibility settings if AirPods are not connected to iPhone. So make sure your headphones are connected!

3. Limits

Also be aware that Conversation Boost in iOS 15 is only available to AirPods Pro owners. Original AirPods and AirPods 2 units are not supported, and neither are AirPods Max!
