Google revealed this new update on his blog called The key word. According to the company, "a smarter way to listen to information hosted by Google Assistant". The research giant has partnered with several publishers over the past two years. They will adapt the distribution of their information to Google's wishes, so that you can be better served. There are several publishing partners around the world, including USA Today, The Washington Post, Fox News Radio, Cheddar, The Associated Press, Politico, Al Jazeera and The Motley Fool.
The briefings are now updated.
If you're reading this and you think "wait, I thought Google Assistant could already read the news?", Then you're right. As mentioned before, this is not a brand new feature, it would be a shame if it were. It's 2021, after all. News Update is an updated and improved version of the existing Briefings feature. If you've ever asked your Google assistant to read the news, you know that he just broadcasts the audio from your favorite news sources and starts reading them in the most boring way possible.
When you have the news read to Google Assistant, you must choose particular sources. You can then hear the news every hour from one particular source, then from another, and then from another. It works a lot like a News reading list. Your news update will bring together a number of these sources and more to create your own personal news update. This update then includes articles from different sources. As mentioned earlier, news and sources are customized to your tastes rather than being random. How well customized? It's a different question. But as it is Google, we can only expect it to learn and improve.
How to get Google Assistant to read you news
To begin receiving updates, you must install the latest version of Google Assistant. You can easily do this by updating the Google app from the Play Store, in case an update is pending. It is more than likely that you are already using the latest version to date. Open the Google Assistant and navigate to Settings. Then, under the You tab, click News so what Change the format of your playlist. Once you have checked your update, you are ready to go. All that's left to do is say this order from Google Assistant: "Hey Google! Play me the news! Or you can simply say, "Hey Google, play me the news" according to your type.
