How to Put Pie Chart in Google Docs and 9 Ways to Customize It

Simple data in the form of text or numbers are boring. To make it attractive and informative, we have different types of graphics such as bars, columns, lines and sectors.
In a pie chart, your data is divided into different sections that look like slices of a large area. Now let's see how to create a pie chart in Google Docs. We have also included many tips for modifying your pie charts.
How to insert pie charts in Google Docs
There are two ways to add a pie chart in Google Docs. First, you can create a new pie chart directly from Google Docs or add an existing pie chart from Google Sheets. If you use the first method, a new worksheet is created to add data.
1. Create a new pie chart
Here are the steps for the same thing:
Step 1: Open the Google Docs document where you want to add a pie chart to your PC.
Note: You can not add pie charts to Google Docs mobile apps.
2nd step: Click Insert, and then click Chart. Then select Pie from the menu.

Step 3: A pie chart with sample data will be added to Docs. You will notice that you can not edit the values directly in Docs. For this, you will need to edit the pie chart in Google Sheets (more details below).

2. Add an existing pie chart from Google Sheets
If you have a pie chart with its data in the sheets, you can easily add it to Docs. To do this, open the Docs document where you want to add it. Then, select Insert> Chart> From Sheets.

The interface will show your spreadsheets. Click the one that contains a pie chart that you want to add and click the Select button.

How to edit pie charts in Google Docs
To edit the data in a pie chart, click once on the chart. You will see the attachment or link icon in the upper right corner. Click on it and select Open source.

You will be taken to his spreadsheet. Scroll up, and you'll find the rows and columns with its data. Modify the section names and their values as needed. The same thing will be reflected in the pie chart.
Point: Double-click the pie chart area to display the chart editor options.

Updating the pie chart in Google Docs
Any changes made to the pie chart worksheet, whether it's values or other customizations (as shown below), will not be reflected directly in Google Docs. You must update it. As soon as you make a change, you will get the Update button in the Google Docs document. Click on it to reflect the changes in your pie chart.

Now, check out some customization tips for pie charts.
1. Change the title of the pie chart
The default title for the pie chart is Marked Points. To change it, double-click the same text in the spreadsheet. Yes, you must edit it in the spreadsheet and not in Google Docs.

When you double-click it, you will see that the text is selected and that a customization window opens to the right. Type the new name of the title. You can also change the font, size and color of the title using the options available under Chart and Axis Titles in the right window. Click Update in Google Docs.

2. Change the color of individual pie slices
A pie chart usually has slices of different colors. If you do not like the default colors of pie cuts, you can edit them. To do this, open the source of your pie chart, that is, linked Google Sheets, as described in the Edit Pie Charts section.
Then double-click on the slice whose color you want to change. Among the right graph editor options, choose your favorite color from the Color pie slice under the Customize tab. Likewise, change for others. Update the changes in Google Docs.

3. Add the background color to the pie chart
To do this, open the pie chart in its worksheet. Double-click on it to display the options of the graph editor. Click the Customize tab. Open the Chart Style section. Change the background color under the option provided. Then click the Update button in Docs.

4. Create a 3D pie chart
To do this, follow the steps above to open the Chart Style section under Chart Editor. Then check the box next to 3D. Make sure you click the Update button in Docs.

5. Display values inside the slices
By default, the pie chart values will be available outside the chart. To display the values at the top of the pie chart, open the chart editor window of the worksheet. Then open the Pie Chart section and click the drop-down list below the Slice label. Select your choice. You can also change its text color. To reflect the changes, click Update in Google Docs.

6. Change the position of the labels
To do this, open the Legends section under Chart Editor> Customize in the pie chart worksheet. Select the location in the Position drop-down list. If necessary, change the color, size, and font of the text. Then update the Google document.

7. Download the pie chart as an image
To do this, open the pie chart in its worksheet. Then click on the pie chart and click on the three-point icon in the upper right corner. Select Download and choose the type of image.

8. Change the pie chart theme
Sometimes we want to match the colors of the pie chart to our theme. Instead of changing the color of each slice, you can change the theme of your pie chart. To do this, click on your pie chart in Google Docs. Then press the Format option at the top and select Image> Image Options.

In the Image Options window on the right side, select the color corresponding to your theme from the drop-down list under Re-Color.

Point: You can access the Image Options windows by right-clicking the pie chart and selecting Image Options.
9. Change the transparency of the pie chart
To do this, open the Image Options window by right-clicking the pie chart or in Format> Image> Image Options. Adjust the transparency under the option Transparency in Settings. You can also customize the brightness and contrast of your pie chart.

Add pie charts in Google Drawings
The method for adding a pie chart in Google Drawings is similar to Google Docs. That is, you must click Insert> Chart> Chart in Google Drawings. Other customization options also apply to drawings.

If your pie chart has skipped a dataset, it may be 0 or negative. So avoid such values.
Limit yourself
Pie charts are great tools for presenting your data to all kinds of people, especially those who want to understand the situation in a visual way instead of checking the numbers. Many values or rows are not well reflected in pie charts. For this, you need to consider other types of graphics that you can add and edit in the same way when using Google Docs.
Then: Google Docs is not limited to graphics. You can even create a timeline. Here is a guide that explains how to create calendars in Docs.
