How to recover & restore deleted file in SharePoint

The backup hierarchy in SharePoint allows a user to view and restore a version if it was accidentally deleted. So in this article, we will see the method to recover an old version in SharePoint library.

SharePoint does not delete the previous version you just restored, it creates a copy and makes the latest version. If your SharePoint lists or libraries are set to track versions, you can roll back to a previous version of a list item or a file.

Restore version of deleted document in SharePoint library

If a document in the library or SharePoint list is accidentally deleted, the action can be reversed. However, for the process to work, you must have your SharePoint lists or libraries defined to track versions. It is only when this is done, that you can restore a previous version of a list item or a file. To restore an earlier version of the file in SharePoint, accidentally deleted,

  1. Access the SharePoint library
  2. Go to the Version history section
  3. Restore the desired version

Version history is enabled by default in SharePoint, but if you don't see the Version History command, version history can be disabled.

1) Access the SharePoint library

Go to the SharePoint quick launch bar and open the list or library.

If the name of your list or library is not visible, click "Site content& #39; or & #39;View all site contentThen choose the name of your list or library.

2) Go to the Version history section

Now right click on the space between the name and date of the item or document and then choose "Version history"In the menu. You may need to scroll down the menu to view the version history. There you will see a list of file versions as shown in the image above.

3) Restore the desired version

When you are in the ‘Version history", Place your mouse cursor over the version you want to restore and click the down arrow next to it for a list of options.

Choose ‘Restore".

When prompted with a message to confirm replacing the current version with the selected one, press the "OK" button.

Please note that SharePoint does not delete the earlier version you just chose to restore. Instead, it creates a copy and makes the latest version.
