How to Use Safari Tabs on Your iPhone
Safari is the go-to browser for many iPhone users. With the recent iOS 15
With each new version of iOS, Safari’s capabilities evolve beyond what we could have imagined. Some unique features involve grouping tabs, which makes it easier to keep web pages in order.
If you want to know how to use Safari tabs on your iPhone, keep reading and we’ll walk you through how. These tips will work for anyone using iOS 15 or later.
How to create tab groups
Do you find that your tabs are constantly disorganized when using Safari and have multiple pages open at once? If so, creating tab groups will help you keep everything in one place.
Creating tab groups is easy. You can create them using pages you have already opened or you can create tab groups from scratch. Let’s first see how to do this using the web pages you have already opened:
Step 1: In the Safari app, click the icon with two squares at the bottom of your page.
2nd step: On the next page, you will see all of your open tabs. If you go to the bottom you will see an option labeled “[number] tabs ”; select this.
Step 3: When the following window appears, tap on the option titled “New Tab Group from [number] Tabs.
Step 4: Your iPhone will ask you to name your new group. Type in the box and press Save.
When you’ve created your new tab, you can access it by clicking on the two squares icon at the bottom right. In the pop-up window, you will see a small bar with the name of your tab.
If you don’t have any pages open yet but want to prepare for your future browsing sessions, you can create groups from scratch. To do this:
Step 1: Select the icon with two squares at the bottom of your Safari app.
2nd step: Click New Empty Tab Group.
Step 3: Give your tab group a name and press Save.
How to use the compact tab bar
In Safari running iOS 15 and later, you’ll notice a compact tab bar, slightly different from previous versions of the app. Although many users have reported difficulty using it, it’s simple once you get used to it. Besides entering a website address, you can also use this bar to switch between tabs and view them all.
If you want to scroll through the tabs, you need to go to the bar at the bottom first.
Once you’re there, swipe left or right to visit your other web pages. Alternatively, you can swipe up to see an overview of the sites you have opened.
If you use this setting in tab groups, you will see all the sites you wanted in that particular group. Thus, it allows easy switching between pages.
The compact tab bar should be enabled by default. However, if you have already disabled it, follow these steps to enable it:
Step 1: Go to Settings> Safari.
2nd step: Scroll down to Tabs.
When you reopen Safari, the changes should have taken effect.
How to ungroup tabs
If you later want to delete your tab groups, the process is not too difficult. Follow these steps to do it:
Step 1: Select the two squares at the bottom right on Safari. Alternatively, you can swipe up if you’ve enabled the compact tab bar.
2nd step: Tap the tab name at the bottom of the next page.
Step 3: Keep the group you want to delete. Then select Remove.
Make Safari easier to use on iPhone
While the tab bar is a bit confusing at first, it’s a great tool to make web browsing easier on your iPhone once you’ve learned how to use it. If you continue to dislike this feature, you can always go back to the pre-iOS 15 version, so it’s worth giving it a fair chance. Alternatively, you can use a Safari alternative for your iPhone.
To make navigation even easier, grouping your tabs is a great way to keep essential pages together, without having to find them later. If you use these two features wisely, you could save hours.
