Wouldn’t you like to have a tool built into Windows to capture all or part of your screen with a few taps? Well, Windows 10 supports this ability. the Keyboard shortcut Win + Shift + S will open the Capture toolbar.

Most of us are awarePrtScn‘(Print screen). The key that appears on your keyboard, next to “Remove‘button. The option, although good, had one major limitation – It can only be used to take a full screen screenshot and copy it to the clipboard. Then you can paste the screenshot image into the desired image editing software to edit it – like MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, etc. and save the file. Likewise, you can also use ‘Alt + PrtScn’Key combination to capture a specific program window.
All of these options still exist, but we now have an even better installation in the form of Earn + Shift + S keyboard shortcut using which you can use to capture screenshots in Windows 10.
To use the shortcut Win + Shift + S for the desired function:
- Press the shortcut keys simultaneously
- Select an area
- Select a capture mode
- Copy and save the image
The Win + Shift + S keyboard shortcut was once part of OneNote’s popular screen capture feature, but has now become an operating system feature.
1]Press the shortcut keys simultaneously
All you need to do to capture the screenshot is to press the “Win + Shift + S” keys simultaneously. By pressing the keys simultaneously, you will notice that the computer screen is covered with a white / gray overlay.
2]Select a capture mode
At this point, at the top of the computer screen, choose a capture mode from the following options:
- Rectangular shears – Allows a user to drag the cursor around an object to form a rectangle
- Free form clipping – Allows you to create a shape around your selection using a mouse or a stylus if you use a tablet (Microsoft Surface). When you make free-form or rectangular cutouts, use your mouse to select the area you want to capture.
- Windows Capture – Helps capture part of the screen such as browser window or dialog
- Full screen snip – As the name suggests, the mode covers the entire visible screen.
3]Select an area
Once you have made your selection, your mouse cursor changes to a “+” sign, indicating that the capture mode is “Activated”.
Select the desired area of the screen using your mouse cursor.
4]Copy and save the image
Once you have selected the desired area, release the cursor. As soon as you do, the screenshot of the selected screen area will be automatically copied to the clipboard. From there, you can choose to paste the screenshot image into Microsoft Paint or other image editing software where you can edit and then save the file.
