Google Assistant is one of the best products made by Google, and also one of the best virtual assistants for mobile and smart home gadgets. Despite the constant development and improvement of the product, users encounter some hiccups when it is used, especially on smartphones.
One of the many setbacks that some users (new and existing) of the mobile version of Google Assistant have reported is the error “Google Assistant is not available on this device”. While we can’t pinpoint the cause of this error, we do know that it stems from certain issues with the main Google app on many Android smartphones.
We have listed four (4) different fixes for this error in the paragraphs below. We are sure that one of them would allow the Google Assistant to work properly on your device again.
Method 1: restart your device
A simple reboot can help resolve common problems you may encounter on your smartphone and other electronic devices. If you can’t use Google Assistant on your smartphone due to a sudden error message “Google Assistant is not available on this device” appearing on the screen, you should try to restart your smartphone or your tablet.
We’re sure you know how to restart or restart your smartphone, but just to be sure, we’ll save the steps.
Step 1: Hold the power button on your smartphone for approximately two (2) seconds.
2nd step: Tap Restart.
And that’s all. When the restart process is complete and your phone turns back on, the Google Assistant should now work without any errors.
If the error message still appears on the screen when you try to use the wizard, try the following fix below.
Method 2: Reactivate the Google Application
If the Google app or certain other Google services are disabled on your smartphone, the Google Assistant may stop working properly. If the Google app is disabled, you need to enable it. And if it is activated and seems to work correctly, but the Wizard displays the unavailable error, you can manually deactivate the Google application and reactivate it.
Follow the steps below to do so. Of course, the Settings menu on your phone may be a little different depending on its model and brand.
Step 1: Launch the Settings menu on your phone.
2nd step: Tap Apps & notifications.
Step 3: Tap “View all apps”.
This opens the Application Information page, where you can view all the applications on your smartphone.
Step 4: Scroll down and find the Google app. Tap it to open the Google information page of the Google app.
Step 5: If the Google app is disabled, tap Activate to launch the app and all of its associated functions.
Try running the Google Assistant now, and it should work without any errors.
If the Google Assistant is activated in step 6, another tip to clear the error “ Google Assistant is not available on this device ” is to manually deactivate the Google application and reactivate it.
Step 6: Tap the Disable icon.
This will display a pop-up window informing you that your device may not function properly if you deactivate the application.
Step 7: Tap Disable app to continue.
The next thing to do is to reactivate the application.
Step 8: Press Activate and the Google app (and the wizard) should now work correctly without any errors.
Method 3: Clear the Application Cache
Clearing the Google application cache can also help you clear this error and keep the wizard running smoothly. Here’s how.
Step 1: Launch the Settings menu on your phone.
2nd step: Tap on “Applications and notifications”.
Step 3: Tap the “View all apps” option.
Step 4: Locate the Google app and tap it to display its information and settings menu.
Step 5: Press “Storage and cache”.
Step 6: Tap the Clear Cache icon.
Do it and try to use the wizard on your device. If the wizard does not work, try the method below.
Method 4: update the Google app
It is important to keep an application up to date. This ensures that you get the latest functionality in the app and that you also get regular fixes for errors and bugs. If your Google Assistant freezes or you can’t use it because it still displays the error “Google Assistant is not available on this device”, updating the Google app could help.
Some users faced with this error have reported that updating the Google app has fixed the error and brought their phone assistant back to normal. Here’s how to update your Google app.
Step 1: Open the Google Play Store.
2nd step: Type Google in the search box and press the corresponding result.
Step 3: On the Google app page, tap the Update button.
After updating the Google app on your phone, try using the Google Assistant, and it should work perfectly.
If you don’t have the Google app on your device, you need to install it from the Play Store. It could also help eliminate any errors that interfere with the functionality of the Google Assistant on your device.
Put your assistant back to work
It is normal to encounter errors when using the Google Assistant on your Android smartphone. If your phone indicates that the Google Assistant is not available on your device, one of the four methods above should help you fix it.
