Why Am I Getting Calls When Do Not Disturb Is On
No one likes being interrupted by calls or messages while attending a meeting, watching a movie, attending a silent event, or sleeping. People mainly use the “do not disturb” feature on their phone to avoid such unpleasant scenarios. But as the user requested a more personalized DND (Do Not Disturb) mode, companies like Google and Apple added more ways to customize the Do Not Disturb settings on the device. This means that you can allow certain callers to bypass DND settings and make an exception for certain scenarios where a caller can reach you by repeating calls.
The problem with the method is that if you set the exceptions for a scenario while activating the “Do not disturb” mode, the system remembers these parameters and continues to use them each time you activate the DND mode on the device .
For example, if you have customized DND settings on the device to allow family members to bypass DND to call or send an emergency message, the system will use the same settings until you bring changes in the Do Not Disturb menu.
Because of these exceptions, you can receive calls when the Do not disturb option is activated on your device. In this article, we will explain how to disable these settings on iPhone and Android and how to customize DND to your liking each time you use the service on the phone.
For iphone
Always turn on silence in settings
The default Do Not Disturb settings on the iPhone may be the reason for receiving calls despite enabling DND. By default, iOS only silences incoming calls and messages when the iPhone is locked. This means that if you are actively using the iPhone with DND enabled, you will receive calls and messages from users.
Fortunately, Apple offers to change these settings from the DND menu. Open the Settings app on the iPhone and go to the Do Not Disturb menu. From the Silence menu, select Always.
After that, the iPhone will block callers even when using the device.
Allow person calls
Apple lets you select certain contacts as favorites for easy access from the Phone app. You can also access these contacts by a long press on the icon of the Phone application. These favorite contacts are automatically excluded from the Do Not Disturb feature. This means that anyone from your favorite contact list can call or send you a message when the Do Not Disturb feature is activated.
You must change the DND settings in the iPhone Settings menu. Open the Settings app on the iPhone and go to the Do Not Disturb menu. Scroll to the Phone menu and select Person from the Allow calls from option. Now, no one, including your favorite contacts, can call you when DND is activated.
Disable repeat calls
When you activate Do Not Disturb on iPhone, all contacts will no longer be called by phone. But, if the same person tries to call you three minutes later, the call will bypass DND mode on the device and ring your iPhone.
To combat this, you need to turn off the repeated call settings. Open the Do Not Disturb menu in iPhone settings and scroll down to the Repeat Calls menu and turn off the option.
