What Is Facebook Take a Break Feature and How to Use it
"We were on a break." Fans of the series F.R.I.E.N.D.S would know what we are talking about. Whether your friends or family post constantly or just want to avoid an ex-flame, it's a little easier in real life. But with social media, it's a challenge. To avoid this, Facebook has introduced the pause function.
In simple terms, this feature is Facebook's attempt to facilitate the phase. It starts with the fact that Facebook does not announce the status of your relationship when you change it to single, divorced, or blank. It's only when you add a relationship, bride or fiance, that it's posted on your feed with your permission.
This is not all that characterizes the pause function. Let's get to know him in detail and how to activate and undo him.
What is taking a break?
The Take a Break feature allows you to take a break from someone on Facebook without making it obvious. This person can be your ex, a friend, a business partner or anyone.
Take the example of your ex-flame. As a rule of thumb, if you break up with someone, you want to avoid that person as much as possible, both in the real world and numerically. The easiest step is to remove them from your friends list or block them. However, both are hard and apparent. This is where the Pause function helps you.
It is designed to help you avoid or show less stories of the person on your feed. Likewise, it also prevents the other person from seeing your updates on Facebook. And in doing so, you avoid the person numerically without defusing it.
What happens when you take a break from someone on Facebook?
Now that you know the idea behind the feature, let's see what's going on behind the scenes.
1. Limit what you see from someone
When you use this feature, the first major change that can take place is that Facebook's algorithms will hide the person from your view as much as possible. Now, hiding on Facebook means a lot of things listed below.
For example, you will not see any posts from the person in your feed. Which means that when the person posts something on Facebook, it will not appear in your feed. You will need to open their Facebook profile manually to see their latest updates. In a certain way, you disengage the person.
Then, if a common friend has tagged that person in a photo or publication, it will not be displayed in your feed. In addition, Facebook does not invite or display the name of the person in the list that appears when you add tags. You will need to look for the person's name if you want to mark it.
Generally, Facebook sends a notification if you and your Facebook friends attend the same events. However, this will not happen with this special person.
2. Limit what the other person sees from you
The Take a Break feature also gives you the ability to hide your posts from the other person's feed. This is done by adding the person to the Facebook shortlist.
Typically, when you add a person to the restricted list, the privacy settings are changed so that your posts and future articles are not visible to that person. Even if the person visits your profile, the latest updates will not be visible. If the publication is public or if you have marked this person, they can view it. The same rules apply to people with whom you pause, because Facebook automatically adds them to the shortlist.
3. Limit the confidentiality of messages passed between two of you
Facebook also supports your previous posts. By doing this, many things change automatically and you have nothing to do. First, if you have already tagged the other person, this content will not be shown to him. It will only be visible to other people marked.
Second, if the other person tagged you or someone else tagged you in the same messages, you will not be tagged automatically. And you will not see these messages. Third, if you have written something on everyone's timeline before taking a break, it will be deleted and can not be retrieved once you stop taking a break.
Note: Once the tags are deleted, you may not be able to see the pictures posted by the other person or by someone else. It depends on their privacy settings because you are no longer tagged now.
In addition, if you have contributed to an album shared with the person with whom you wish to pause, you will be removed. That is, you can not add to these albums anymore.
Note: When you enable the pause feature for a person, you must customize the settings above. You can mix and match.
Where can we see each other
Let's see what does not change using this feature.
posts
Nothing happens to the messages on Facebook Messenger. You can always send a message. However, you will not be prompted to send them a message, that is, you will not see their name as a shortcut. To hide the thread from your Messenger view, you can archive or delete it.
Publications on the wall
You can always write on everyone's timeline after a break if your privacy settings allow it. Who else can see the publication again depends on your existing privacy settings.
comments
If you both comment on the same message that can come from a friend or from a common page / group, you can see other people's comments. You can even respond to comments.
How long Facebook takes a break last
There is no time limit for this feature. This lasts until you track the person again or remove them from the shortlist.
Does anyone know if you take a break on Facebook
No. Nobody will know that you took a break, including the special person. It's a nice little secret between you and Facebook.
However, the other person may find something suspicious when your posts stop appearing in their feed and they can not see the posts on your wall.
How to take a break at someone's
To take a break from someone on Facebook, you need to follow two main steps: start the pause mode and then select its preferences. We first showed how to launch the mode, then we will dive into his preferences.
1. Open the pause mode
By default, when you change the status of your relationship as single, divorced, or empty, you will be prompted to use the pause feature. To use it without changing the status of your relationship, follow these steps for Facebook mobile apps and the desktop.
Launch Take a break on the Facebook site
To do this, open Facebook and log in with your account. Then open the link below dedicated to the Pause function.
A window will open and ask you to enter the person's name. Type the first initials then click on the real name suggested by Facebook. You will then need to select the preferences.
Launch Take a Break on Facebook Android App
Open the profile of the special person. Tap on Friends and select Pause from the menu. Then set the preferences as shown below.
Launch Take a Break on Facebook iPhone App
For this, visit the special Facebook profile. Tap the friends icon, and then tap Friends. Then, tap Take a break. You will be prompted to set the preferences.
2. Set pause preferences
Once you have started Pause, three sections will appear. You must customize the privacy settings in these three sections according to your preferences. To do this, click or tap View options.
These sections are the same as those described in the section "What happens when you take a break from someone?" As mentioned earlier, you can choose a parameter in a section and a different parameter in the second section. In other words, you can see less of someone, but you can let it see your messages. So, choose the options carefully.
In the first section, you must choose your choice to view the contents of others. You must select 'Limit where you see (name of the person).' Then tap or click the Save button.
In the second section, check the box next to "Hide your posts (person name)".
Finally, Facebook offers three options to limit past publications.
First, you can keep the privacy settings of past messages. In doing so, the messages passed between the two will remain intact. Click or tap "Keep all messages as is".
You can also change the privacy settings of individual publications by using the "Edit individual publications" button. When you do, click the Next button at the bottom. You will be redirected to your friendship page where you will be able to manage the confidentiality of the publications that took place between you two.
Facebook will show you all the common messages when you select this option. You must click or press the three-point icon of the publication and select Delete Tag from the menu.
Select "Edit all my messages and messages I'm tagged" if you want Facebook to automatically remove tags and delete previous messages between you two. Click Save to save the changes.
How to cancel a Facebook break
The process is not as easy as removing a person from a list by clicking a button. You have to take a slight pain to reverse some of the effects.
There are two methods to stop taking a break from someone.
1. Inverse Take a break directly
On the Facebook website, open the Take a break link. Type the name of the person you are pausing.
On mobile apps, follow the steps above to start Pause. Yes, you must repeat the same steps.
Once in the customization screen of the Pause function, you must restore the original settings. That is, in the first section, select 'View (person's name) anywhere on Facebook.
In the second section, select "Do not limit what (name) can see".
Finally, select "Keep all messages as is" in the last section. Do not forget to press Save under each section.
Note: Deleted tags and posts will not be added or displayed again.
2. Stop taking a break indirectly
Since this feature undoes the person and adds it to your shortlist, you have to reverse these two things. In other words, follow the person again and remove them from your short list. In either case, the other person will not be informed.
Follow on Facebook
To follow the person again, visit his profile and click / tap the Follow button. It is usually available near the person's name above in the case of Android and the desktop.
On iPhone, you'll find it under the friends icon.
Supprimer de la liste restreinte

iPhone

Can’t Find Someone After Taking a Break
If things don’t become normal after you stop taking a break from someone, there could be a few reasons for that. For instance, either the person might have blocked you, or they might be taking a break from you. If the person doesn’t appear in your list, they could have unfriended you.
In case none of them is true and you still can’t find the person, ask them to share their profile link. That way, you can directly add them without searching them.
Everybody Needs to Take a Break
If you don’t want to offend the other person by blocking or unfriending them, then taking a break is a great option. You no longer see their posts on your feed, and your posts are also hidden from them.
The overall thing maintains your sanity as you no longer see content from the person you are trying to avoid. When and if things go back to normal, you can stop taking a break from them on Facebook. And they would never know what happened. You will continue to be friends. What a great idea!
