How to control Spotify on Amazon Echo

When Alexa and Spotify are successfully linked and you start playing something, there are several ways you can control it. First, you can use the Alexa app or via the web at alexa.amazon.com. You can also use the Spotify app or its web version at open.spotify.com.

Finally, you can use the following Spotify commands on your Echo device:

  • Alexa, play Spotify
  • Alexa, Play (playlist name)
  • Alexa, like this song
  • Alexa, what plays
  • Alexa, play my discovery every week
  • Alexa, Shuffle (playlist name) playlist

If the playlists don’t work as expected, say “Alexa, read the playlist (playlist name)”. And if Alexa reads a random playlist instead of the one you created, add a word my at your command, that is to say “Alexa, play my playlist of best songs”.

Point: Avoid using punctuation marks, acronyms or difficult titles as Spotify playlist names.

Competition is strong

We are happy that Spotify is finally available for free users in many countries on Echo. It was high time that Spotify introduced the functionality as the competition increased day by day. Amazon has its own music service, which offers great competition to Spotify. Even YouTube Music and Apple Music offer great services. Speaking of Apple Music, you can use the same steps mentioned above to link Apple Music to Echo. The only difference is that you should select Apple Music instead of Spotify.
