How to customize Context Menu of BitLocker Encrypted Drives in Windows 10

In this article, we will show you how to customize the Contextual menu of BitLocker Encrypted drives in Windows 10, adding or removing action-specific commands. To do this, you must modify the Windows registry. But since this is a tedious process, we have created ready-to-use .reg (registry) files, which you just have to click to add the entries to your registry.

The context menu commands for BitLocker encrypted drives that we will add or remove are::

  • Enable or disable BitLocker
  • Manage BitLocker
  • Lock or unlock the player
  • Suspend or resume BitLocker protection.
  • Change the BitLocker password.

It is recommended that you create a system restore point before continuing. In addition, you must be logged in as an administrator to add or remove items from the context menu.

1) Add / Remove Enable BitLocker

You can add or remove the Enable bitlocker context menu from all fixed, OS and removable drives for all Windows 10 users.

Add:

  1. Download the compressed registry files mentioned below:
  2. Save the .reg files on your desktop.
  3. Extract the contents of the compressed .reg files.
  4. Double-click the desired .reg file to merge it.
  5. A UAC prompt appears. Click Run> Yes> Yes> OK to allow the merge.
  6. You can now delete the downloaded .reg file.

Remove:

To remove the pop-up menu item, simply double-click the specific reg file that deletes those entries.

When you remove the Enable BitLocker pop-up menu, the BitLocker button is dimmed in the Ribbon's Playback Tools Management tab. You can still enable BitLocker for a drive from the Control Panel.

2) Add / Remove Manage BitLocker

You can add or remove the Manage BitLocker context menu of all unlocked BitLocker encrypted drives for all Windows 10 users.

The procedure involved is the same as mentioned above. You simply need to make sure that you are using the appropriate Reg files to add or remove this entry.

3) Add / Remove an unlock drive

You can add or remove the Unlock the player context menu from locked BitLocker encrypted drives for all Windows 10 users.

The procedure involved is the same as the one mentioned above at number 1. You simply need to make sure that you use the appropriate Reg files to add or delete this entry.

4) Add / Remove Resume BitLocker Protection

You can add or remove the Resume BitLocker protection pop-up menu of all BitLocker encrypted suspenders for all Windows 10 users.

The procedure involved is the same as the one mentioned above at number 1. You simply need to make sure that you use the appropriate Reg files to add or delete this entry.

5) Add / Remove Change BitLocker Password

You can add or remove the Change BitLocker password context menu of all BitLocker encrypted drives for all Windows 10 users.

The procedure involved is the same as the one mentioned above at number 1. You simply need to make sure that you use the appropriate Reg files to add or delete this entry.

When you delete the Change BitLocker Password pop-up menu, it also becomes grayed out Change Password / PIN in the BitLocker button drop-down menu on the "Management Tools" tab of the ribbon. You can still change the BitLocker password for a drive from the Control Panel.

6) Add / Remove Disable BitLocker

You can add or remove a Disable BitLocker Shortcut menu for all BitLocker-encrypted fixed, OS, and removable drives for all Windows 10 users. When you disable BitLocker for a BitLocker encrypted drive, it will be completely decrypted.

You must be logged in as an administrator to add, use, or delete the "Disable BitLocker" pop-up menu.

The procedure is a little different here.

Add:

  1. Move on off-bitlocker.vbs file that was uploaded into the C: Windows System32 folder.
  2. Double-click the .reg file that this pop-up menu adds to merge it.

Remove:

  1. Double-click the .reg file that removes this pop-up menu to merge it.
  2. Open the C: Windows System32 folder and delete the off-bitlocker.vbs file.

7) Add / remove a locked drive

The procedure is as follows.

Add:

  1. Move on lock drive.vbs file that was uploaded into the C: Windows System32 folder.
  2. Double-click the .reg file that this pop-up menu adds to merge it.

Remove:

  1. Double-click the .zip file that removes this context menu to merge it.
  2. Open the C: Windows System32 folder and delete the lock drive.vbs file.

8) Add / Remove Suspend BitLocker Protection

You can temporarily suspend or suspend BitLocker protection at any time for an unlocked drive encrypted by BitLocker. When you suspend BitLocker protection, it remains unlocked and unprotected until you manually re-enable BitLocker protection for the drive.

You can add or remove Suspend BitLocker protection in the context menu of all unlocked BitLocker encrypted drives for all Windows 10 users.

The procedure is as follows.

Add:

  1. Move on suspend-bitlocker.vbs file that was uploaded into the C: Windows System32 folder.
  2. Double-click the .reg file that this pop-up menu adds to merge it.

Remove:

  1. Double-click the .zip file that removes this context menu to merge it.
  2. Open the C: Windows System32 folder and delete the suspend-bitlocker.vbs file.
