How to Disable Dark Mode in Windows 10, macOS, Android, and iOS
Although the bright theme of your device becomes darker, it also helps preserve the battery life and ultimately ensures that your sleep pattern will not be disturbed – at least not because of the screen.
The dark mode may seem better, but not everyone prefers to use it. We've looked at different ways to turn off dark mode on different apps, but we'll show you how to turn it off on different devices.
Disable Dark Mode in Windows 10
It is almost inevitable that you use your computer for long hours, especially at work.
Fortunately, Windows 10 users can reduce potential visual fatigue by activating the dark theme, which was part of the Windows 10 anniversary update features. The system-level color scheme is customizable, so that it can display darker tones on menus and backgrounds, making it easier for the eyes.
The dark theme also modifies several applications such as Microsoft Edge, Calendar, Mail, Store, Settings, Calculator, Alarms and Clock.
It will not, however, flip all aspects of the system into dark mode. For example, File Explorer retains its default color scheme, while for other applications, you must enable dark mode in their individual settings.
To turn off dark mode or dark theme in Windows 10, follow these steps:
Step 1: Click Start and select the gear icon to open the settings.
2nd step: Click Customization.
Step 3: Select Colors, then scroll to Choose your default application mode.
Step 4: Click Light.
Disable dark mode in macOS
Like Windows, Apple's black mode is a macOS system setting that works with all the applications that come with your Mac computer.
The Night Shift option changes the color balance of the screen, which restores the blue light during the day and reduces it in the evening, for less visual fatigue and better sleep. The challenge is to find the controls for this feature, and its installation can be a bit tedious.
Apple's dark mode is a system parameter in macOS.
The dark mode debuted with macOS 10.14 Mojave and is not enabled by default. However, activating it is as easy as turning it off.
If your Mac uses macOS Mojave or later, follow the procedure below to turn off the dark mode:
Step 1: Click the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
2nd step: On the System Preferences screen, click General Preferences.
Step 3: Click the Light icon next to Appearance to return to Light mode.
If you are using El Capitan or OS X Yosemite, dark mode darkens the background, fonts become white, and the effect is spread across the menu bar, its elements, dock, and drop-down menu. You can disable it by following these steps:
Step 1: Click the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
2nd step: In the System Preferences screen, click General.
Step 3: You will see a check box: Use the dark menu bar and dock. Click to deselect it and you will immediately see the restored light effect in the menu bar, the items in the menu bar and a clear light gray background on the dock.
Disable dark mode on Android
Android devices also have dark mode, with the exception of a few phones from brands such as Samsung, Huawei, Honor, OnePlus, ASUS and Nexus. These companies choose to make the night mode a menu option rather than a standard feature.
The dark theme is based on dark colors and blacks, which complement the traditional one of light to offer two distinct options to the current generation of Android devices.
The good news is that you can change the night mode or night mode setting whenever you want by following these steps:
Step 1: Open Settings or swipe from the top of your device's screen to display the Quick Settings menu.
2nd step: Press Display.
If you use Quick Settings, just find the Night Mode icon and tap it once to turn it off.
Step 3: Press to turn off the Dark Theme or Night Mode switch.
Disable dark mode on iOS
IPhones and iPads also got dark mode with the release of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.
For iPhones with OLED displays such as the X and 11 series, dark mode maximizes battery life, though other models also benefit from some enhancements.
If you're not a fan of dark mode, you can turn it off in three ways: from Settings, Control Center or using Siri.
Disable dark mode on iPhone or iPad with settings
Step 1: Open the settings and press Display and Brightness.
2nd step: You will see two options in the Appearance section: Light or Dark. Select Light to disable or exit dark mode.
Disable dark mode on iPhone or iPad using the Control Center
Step 1: Open the Control Center on your iOS device. Touch and hold the brightness control icon.
2nd step: Press Dark Mode Off to exit dark mode.
Disable dark mode on iPhone or iPad with Siri
You can turn off the dark mode by simply ordering Siri to do it for you. Just say something like – Hey Siri, turn off the dark mode. And it will disappear.
Say goodbye to the night
We hope you now know how to go back to the default clear background you had on your device before the dark mode theme took your screen.
If you do not like using dark mode throughout the day, you can always change your device settings to get a lighter daytime background and a darker evening. In this way, you do not necessarily subject your eyes to prolonged exposure to light that would otherwise cause more stress during work or navigation.
Then: iOS 13 and iPadOS integrate the dark mode function throughout the entire operating system, from settings to built-in applications and system-level views. If you do not want to use it in the new configuration, the article below will show you how to disable it.
