How to Download and Change Default Fonts in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Office Suite is the most popular productivity suite in the world. Among them, Microsoft Word is probably most of the most used office applications. And there are several factors to this. The software is full of features, offers hundreds of templates for productivity tasks, creating reports, CVs, etc. It is available on all platforms. In addition to that, you can customize the Word document with dozens of fonts. If that’s not enough, you can also download fonts, install them in Office applications, and set them as default on software like Microsoft Word.

In this article, we will explain how to download custom fonts for Microsoft Word, install them and set them as the default font in the software. Let’s start.

Download new fonts from the Microsoft Store

As mentioned earlier, there are two easy ways to download new fonts to Windows 10. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: Press the Windows button, search for Settings and dive into the Windows Settings menu.

Step 3: Here you will find the list of fonts available with an option – Get more fonts in the Microsoft Store.

Download custom fonts from the web

The Microsoft Store font collection is grim compared to what you can get on the web. The web is full of custom fonts for your style and style. I mainly refer to the Google Fonts website to download and install custom fonts. Follow the steps below to download and install them from the web.

2nd step: Select the appropriate font and press the download family button in the upper right corner.

Step 3: It will download a zip file to your device.

Step 4: Go to the download location and decompress the file using the WinRAR ZIP Archiver tool. It’s an integrated Windows system.

Step 5: Open the unzipped folder and you will find the full font family.

Step 6: This is the TrueType (.ttf) file type. Open any file you want to install and the system will preview what this font will look like in different sizes.

Step 7: Select the Install button and it will install the fonts in no time. Users do not need to restart or update a program to make it available.

With the May 10, 2019 Windows 10 update, Microsoft added an option to install new ones from the Windows Settings menu.

Step 1: Open the Settings app in Windows and go to Personalization> Fonts.

Step 3: Go back to the font files located in File Manager and simply drag and drop them to the mentioned menu.

Once the steps are completed, the fonts will be available in all MS Office applications.

How to change the default fonts in Microsoft Word

After installing new fonts in Office applications, you may want to replace the default “Calibri” fonts with the newly added ones. The process is fairly straightforward.

Step 1: Open all Word documents and open the formatting bar at the top.

2nd step: Tap the small arrow to open the advanced format bar.

How to uninstall fonts in Microsoft Word

When you install dozens of new fonts in Office applications, it can get complicated to keep up with them. The long list of fonts in Microsoft Word also makes it difficult to navigate the software’s font menu. This is why it is always advisable to uninstall these fonts when you no longer use them. Follow the steps below to uninstall the fonts in Microsoft Word and other Office applications.

Step 1: Open the Settings app in Windows.
