How to Put Image or Text On Top of Another Image in Google Docs

Applications like Microsoft Word, Google Slides, etc. allow you to superimpose images or text on another image without any problem. But when users try to achieve the same result in Google Docs, they are disappointed. The ability to put an image or text in front of another image is missing in Google Docs. This does not mean that it is not possible to overlay text on images. You can do this with the methods mentioned in this article.

The overlay in Docs can add words to an image, add a logo or watermarks to an image, or merge two images. There are two ways to overlay images in Google Docs. First, with the help of Google Drawings and second, using the line break function.

Let’s check out the two methods for overlaying images or text on top of another image in Google Docs.

Method 1: overlay images in Google Docs with Google Drawings

In this method, you must first add your image as a drawing. Then you can add images and text on the same image. Here are the steps in detail.

Step 1: Open your Google Docs document.

Step 3: You will be redirected to the integrated Google Drawing module. Click the Image icon to add your background image.

Step 4: Once the image is inserted in the Drawing panel, you can now add text or another image on top. To add text, click the text icon. Then start tapping on the image. Customize color, style, etc. from the top options. Click Save and Close at the top to insert this image into your document.

Likewise, to add another image, click on the same image icon you used in step 3. Open the image you want to add at the top.

It will appear above your background image. Using the mouse, drag it to the desired position or change its size from its corners. Click Save and Close to add the edited image with your logo or layered image to the document.

If you want to change an element of this image later, just double-click the image in Google Docs. You will be redirected to the Drawing panel from which you can modify existing elements or add others.
