Start, Taskbar, and Action Center options greyed out in Windows 10 Colors settings

Many users have reported a strange problem after installing a new feature update for Windows 10. While trying to change the Colors settings in Windows 10, the Startup Options, Taskbar, and Action Center are dimmed under Show accent colors on the following surfaces.

Apparently, the problem is specific to the Default lightweight Windows mode. Change it for the Dark mode solve the problem. For some users, changing the theme solves the problem. Both solutions are workarounds and not resolutions.

Because Microsoft is aware of the problem, we recommend that you make sure that your Windows 10 system is updated at all times, in case they apply a permanent solution. Until then, you can try our following suggestions:

  1. Run DISM commands and SFC scan
  2. Update the graphics card driver
  3. Make changes to Group Policy.

If you experience this problem, try the following resolutions one by one to resolve the problem:

1) Run the DISM and SFC analyzes

One of the causes of the problem under discussion could be corrupt or missing files. In this case, you can try running a DISM and SFC scan to replace corrupt or missing files and to fix the problem.

You can use our free FixWin software to repair System Image & Run SFC with one click.

Download it and press the respective buttons (1 and 2) to start the analyzes. Restart your system after each.

2) Update the driver of the graphics card

Although most users reported the problem after updating Windows, the problem may be due to an outdated graphics card driver. You can update the graphics card driver as follows:

Press Win + R to open the Run window and type the command. devmgmt.msc. Press Enter to open the Device Manager window.

in the Device Manager window, expand the list of Screen shots.

Right click on the asset Graphics card driver and select Update the driver.

Follow the steps to update the driver and restart the computer.

If the two steps above do not work, try changing the theme as a workaround until Windows publishes an update after the problem is resolved.

3) Make changes to Group Policy

Some organizations may use a group policy to prevent users from changing the display settings, be it all display settings or those in question. To check, ask other users in your organization belonging to the same domain and network that they face a similar problem. If this is the case, contact the IT administrator to modify the Group Policy settings according to your needs.

I hope this helps you.
