Surface Laptop 3 fan is loud and running constantly

The Windows Club

Recently, some owners of the Surface Laptop 3 have talked a lot about a problem that fans are concerned about. Apparently, the fans are spinning very hard, more than usual. This tends to happen when the device is plugged in, which is quite strange if you ask us.

One user in particular said that he was playing Minecraft, which is not a heavy game. Another was just surfing the web, but fans of the system were going crazy. If you have this problem, you don’t have to worry because we know how to fix it.

Surface Laptop 3 fan is noisy and always running

If your Surface Laptop 3 fan is noisy and noisy, and running constantly, which makes the device hot, here are some steps you can take to resolve the problem.

  1. Adjust processor performance
  2. Maximum processor state
  3. Run the power troubleshooter.

1]Adjust processor performance

You see, the main problem here is the performance of your CPU. When the system is running on battery, the operating system, which is Windows 10 in this case, automatically reduces performance to extend the life of the battery.

Now, when the device is plugged in, performance increases, usually on Recommended. At this level, you will get decent performance, but less heat, therefore the fans will not spin as fast. However, if you’ve made changes in the past where the processor performs at its best when plugged in, that means the fans will overload to keep the Surface Laptop 3 cool. From now on there will be a lot of fan noise.

The plan then consists of setting the feeding mode to Recommended. We can do this on Surface Laptop 3 by clicking on the battery icon in the taskbar, then drag the blue button down until the word Recommended appears.

From there, the fans should stop with their madness; but if that doesn’t work, just follow the next step.

2]Maximum processor state

Maximum processor usage is for processor performance when the computer is connected. By default, it must be 100%. But we want to bring it down to 90% of maximum performance, so how do we do that?

First, we need to open the Control Panel by searching for the name via the search section. Once it appears, select it, then go to Hardware and Sound> Power Options> Change Plan Settings. From there, click Change advanced power settings and in the window that appears, look for Processor power management, then Maximum processor throughput.

Change the connected section from 100% to 90%. Press Apply, then OK and see if the fans are now operating normally.

3]Run the power troubleshooter

Run the built-in power troubleshooter and see if it helps.
