Zoho Notebook vs Apple Notes: Which Note-Taking App Should You Use
2. Where Zoho Notebook shines
Zoho Notebook has a well thought out design. You can search for notes from anywhere in the app. This is not the case with Apple Notes, where you have to open a folder before you can search.
Zoho Notebook also allows you to color code your notes, which adds a little to the flavor. You can choose any color from the palette. Then there are the beautiful laptop covers that you can select or download.
You can choose between the list and the grid layout. Users migrating from Evernote will be happy to see a dedicated option hidden in the settings.
In fact, there are many ways to customize the notebook, such as how to sort the notes, display them, display the time on the notes or not, the default font size , photo size, etc.
3. Create and format notes
Creating a note is easy in Apple Notes and Zoho Notebook. The difference is that you can create a note on any screen of the latter. In this case, it will be saved in the default notebook that you selected in the settings. You can also choose the type of note you want to create in the bottom bar of the notebook. Examples include lists, drawings, audio notes, and images.
You can add a table, attach pictures or draw using a few pens and brushes in Apple Note. The table option is basic but very useful for representing data. But don't expect formulas and macros. Apple Notes can also scan documents, but not Notebook.
There is a separate menu for text formatting in Apple Notes, where you can create a bullet or numbered list, change the indentation, header, and strikethrough or style text.
Zoho Notebook has all the options we have seen above and much more. You can write on a black background by pressing this icon. Useful for highlighting important parts. You can also add links and hashtags here, which can be very useful. Hashtags are great for finding notes, and you can tag notes in different notebooks with the same tag to build a relationship.
You can create a timeline inside a note, thanks to the calendar option. Just select the date and time to enter it.
4. Other functionalities
Apple Notes and Zoho Notebook support locking notes for added security and privacy. You can also pin or add favorite notes. You can easily move notes from one folder / notebook to another.
Zoho has a few extra tricks up her sleeve. You can set a missing reminder in Apple Notes. Indeed, Apple has a separate application for this called Reminders. There is a version option that saves earlier versions of the notes for you. Useful if you want to go back in time to find out what you have added or removed over time.
It is very useful and there are not many note taking apps, especially the free ones, that offer a version history option. Pretty easy to use too. Just choose the hour and the note will come back in less than a second.
Apple Notes and Zoho Notebook will allow you to export notes to PDF, making them easy to share. You can also tag a note in Apple Notes before exporting it to PDF.
Zoho Notebook integrates with other popular Zoho apps such as Mail, Projects and Flow. It comes with gesture support like a pinch to select multiple notes and swipe to get information about the notes. Finally, you can add covers to your note to make it beautiful and pretty.
5. Price and platform
As mentioned before, both apps are free, but there are subtle differences. Apple Notes is limited by the free 5 GB iCloud storage you get. The same space is also used for everything else, like backups, Apple Mail, etc. The price starts at $ 0.99. Zoho Notebook is completely free, without any conditions. It is also available on the web, Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and even Linux.
Note it, forget it
I like Zoho Notebook more. It is well designed with better research, the ability to add links, version history, platform independent, completely free, comes with colors and covers, and offers little almost everything Apple Notes has to offer. The only thing missing is a collaboration tool that developers should integrate soon. Apple Notes is a solid note-taking app, but more suitable if you are at the heart of the Apple ecosystem.
