How to Enable or Disable Dark Mode in Brave Browser for iOS
Brave places great importance on privacy and maintains a host of modern features – the bookmarking features, built-in download manager, and data synchronization capabilities allow me to use it just like any other full-fledged browser. .
And to make things even better, Brave recently received dark mode support. Let's see how this works, then review everything you need to know about turning on and off the dark mode in Brave for your iPhone or iPad.
How Brave Dark Mode works
The dark mode feature of Brave works very differently from what you usually expect. For starters, it does not force the colors within the sites to make them dark. It looks more like a dark theme than a dark mode in its own right.
But Brave will always show sites in dark mode, as long as they offer native support for a darker color scheme. For example, visiting the DuckDuckGo search engine with Brave Dark Mode enabled will automatically make it go dark. Do not expect this to happen again.
In addition, Brave can also mimic the dark mode features found in iOS 13 and iPadOS. This means that Brave's dark mode will automatically activate and deactivate each time you switch the controls to the system scale. This is what you get on the Safari.
But unlike Safari, which depends on the color scheme of the system, Brave also has separate appearance switches that allow you to turn dark mode on or off only for the browser. This gives you a ton of flexibility.
Aesthetically, the dark mode of Brave is well implemented and looks fantastic. I have hardly encountered any navigation problems because the browser intertwines the black and gray pixels to perfectly highlight the important elements. And when you come across a site that supports dark mode, you are in a great experience.
However, the dark mode of Brave will not have a significant impact on the battery life of iPhones with OLED displays, mainly because most sites do not yet support native dark mode. Bummer. But if you really want to surf all the sites in dark mode, I recommend you to use Firefox for iOS, which I will come back to later briefly.
Enable or disable dark mode in Brave
Enabling and disabling the dark mode in Brave requires only a brief dive in the Browser Settings panel. Do not worry. You do not have to dig deep.
Start by pressing the three-dot icon in the lower right corner of the Brave app. Tap Settings in the menu that appears. Finally, tap Appearance in the Display section.
You will then encounter three separate controls – Automatic, Light, and Dark.
The Dark and Light controls let you directly manage the dark mode for Brave. Press Dark to activate dark mode, or press Clear to return to the normal color scheme.
Alternatively, the automatic control links Brave's dark mode to the system's color scheme in iOS 13 and iPadOS.
To enable or disable dark mode for your iPhone or iPad (and also for Brave), open the Control Center, tap and hold the brightness bar, and then tap the icon labeled Dark Mode.
If you have configured a dark mode program, Brave will automatically switch between dark and light modes with the operating system.
Again, do not expect a complete dark-mode experience when using Brave. Most sites do not have a native dark color palette.
Switch to Firefox for iOS
Firefox for iOS is not as privacy-focused as Brave, but it gets close enough. And it's also one of the best browsers with full support for dark mode on iOS. He forcibly reverses the colors on the sites to get a dark mode effect, but is smart enough to keep the images intact.
Despite the strange problem, it offers a great experience, and I highly recommend switching to it if you find that the functionality of the dark mode in Brave is lacking.
To turn on dark mode while browsing in Firefox for iOS, tap the icon with three rows stacked in the lower right corner of the screen, and then tap the switch next to Enable Night Mode.
The result is instantaneous. You can also find additional commands in the Firefox Settings panel that you can use to automatically switch the browser to dark mode when ambient light levels become too low. Phenomenal.
Firefox for iOS also comes with a host of other features. Do not forget to check out my guide for the best Firefox tips on iPhone and iPad.
Brave the Dark
With dark mode enabled, Brave releases anonymous vibrations. It's just a shame that you do not have the opportunity to experience this on all sites. But as dark mode is in vogue right now, more sites should begin to support the feature as soon as possible.
