Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 Android 10 Beta Rolling Out

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 was launched in April 2018, with Android 8.0 Oreo. In April, the device will complete its two-year life cycle with software updates. But before that, Asus is launching the Android 10 update for the Zenfone Max Pro M1. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 Android 10 update is still in beta because it is deployed in India and France. This happens almost 4 months after the official release of Android 10 for Google Pixel devices.

Last year, Asus did not successfully release the beta version of Android 9.0 until April, 6 months after the release of Android 9. According to this standard, the Android 10 update arrived earlier. In addition, for an economical device, not part of the Android One program, getting two years of updates is commendable in itself. So trust Asus. Some Nokia Android One devices are still on Android 9, for comparison.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 Android 10 Update

The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 Android 10 beta measures approximately 1.6 GB. It comes with version number 17.2017.1911.407. The device usually has an almost stock Android version, which partly explains the popularity of the Max Pro M series. Unsurprisingly, the beta version of Android 10 for the Zenfone Max Pro M1 is also an Android 10 version almost in stock .

As such, you get all the functionality of Android 10. This includes a system-wide dark mode, full gesture navigation, better digital wellness tools as well as Focus mode and parental controls, better control of app permissions, especially permission to access location, smart response, and more. You can find out more about these features here if you don’t already know them.

Since this is a beta update, you may not see or find a update notification on the software update page. You can, however, load the update in parallel using the Software Update page. If you are not using the original Android 9.0 version and instead use a custom ROM, you can still flash the original firmware from TWRP recovery. The TWRP flashable package is different from the package that you can load from the original Android 9 firmware.

Warning

Keep in mind that this is a beta update and that you may experience bugs. One of the biggest bugs reported by users has to do with encryption. The device may ask you for a password on reboot, whether you are using a template, a PIN code, or a password. Even if you use a password lock, it may still not recognize it. So far, the only solution that seems to work is a factory reset. This will remove the encryption as well as all of your data and files.
