MIUI 11

Generally, Android OEMs release updated versions of their skins with the new versions of Android. Xiaomi has always had a very different approach. The new versions of MIUI are based not only on the latest version of Android, but also on older versions running on some of their phones. In this way, they always update the software on a device, without making the effort to port a newer version of Android.

It's great if you only value updates and new features and if you do not care about new versions of Android. For example, the next MIUI version of Xiaomi, MIUI 11, will be based on Android 10. Many Xiaomi devices will get official and unofficial ports from the ROM MIUI 11, but not all will be based on Android 10. Only a small number Xiaomi's devices will have the chance to have Android 10. Although most of the features of MIUI 11 can be used on devices running on lower versions of Android.

Fortunately for us, Xiaomi has pushed the update MIUI 11 on some devices, as mentioned before. These include the Mi Mix 2 and the Redmi K20 Pro. So we know that Android 10 and MIUI 11 arrive at least on these devices. Some users have also successfully installed the accidental update before Xiaomi can recover it.

New design and icons

MIUI 11 will bring a new design and new icons more aesthetic, but also easier to use. You can check out these new icons in the Settings app in the screenshots above. The icons are bright and colorful but there is no consistency in the shapes of the icons. This is quite different from Android 10 and even IOS, which MIUI borrows tremendously.

MIUI 11 follows the motto "Giving power to the productive" and, as such, there are a lot of empty white spaces. For those unfamiliar with design philosophy, empty white spaces are a good thing. They give the user the impression of more space, more relaxed environment. That's why today we're seeing all the big names in software updating their products with more and more white interfaces.

Along with that, there are also some new features such as dark mode. MIUI 11 also brings the new file sharing implementation between devices on which Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo collaborate. There is a new MIUI 11 Always On Display feature that automatically changes the color of text over time. This can occur randomly from a kaleidoscope style featuring 5 different patterns that rotate each time the screen is turned on. It is also possible to change the colors according to the time or location.

We will know even more in the coming days, but in the meantime, enjoy the superb MIUI 11 concept wallpapers!
