Fix UPnP not successful error on Xbox One

If the power line of your Xbox One is suddenly disturbed, it may be difficult to return to the game. Additionally, you may see an error, carrying the following message – UPnP failed. Although simply restarting Xbox One may resolve the issue, you will need to take additional steps if the issue persists.

Universal Plug and Play or UPnP is something your Xbox uses to configure your router for multiplayer gaming and chat. If you meet UPnP failed error, follow this procedure:

  1. Log into your router’s configuration web page
  2. Check if UPnP is enabled
  3. Reactivate UPnP.

1]Log into your router’s configuration web page

Go to your router’s login page. You can search online for guides related to connecting to your specific model. Here I am using the NETGEAR router. So I’m going to highlight the steps associated with it to enable or disable Universal Plug and Play.

Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device connected to your router’s network.

Enter the router’s username and password (the username and password must be case sensitive).

2]Check if UPnP is enabled

When finished, the basic home page should load.

Now go to ‘Advanced“From the router and select”Advanced configuration

Here, scroll down to locate the UPnP link. Click on it to open the UPnP page.

By default, this check box for UPnP is checked. If the Activate UPnP is disabled, the router does not allow any device to automatically control router resources, such as port forwarding. Disable UPnP.

Save your changes when finished.

3]Reactivate UPnP

Restart your Xbox One, your router, and your modem.

Again, access the UPnP menu on your router.

Activate UPnP and save your changes.

Once you have reset your router:

  1. Restart your Xbox console.
  2. Press the Xbox button.
  3. Select System> Settings> General> Network settings.
  4. Check your settings again to make sure the UPnP message has disappeared.

If UPnP still does not work or is not supported on your router, you can also try using the DMZ, Port Forwarding or Port Triggering functions of the router.
