How to Uninstall and Reinstall Microsoft WordPad in Windows 10

Since the release of Windows 95, we have all encountered Microsoft’s rich text editor WordPad once in our life. WordPad is a powerful but simple version of MS Word that we use almost daily in our lives. In this article, we will learn how to uninstall / reinstall Microsoft WordPad in Windows 10.

WordPad can easily format and print text, including fonts, bold, italic, color and centered text, etc. Unlike MS Word, WordPad lacks certain functions like a spell checker, a thesaurus, etc. Recent versions of new versions of Windows 10, the operating system comes with a list of optional applications.

Applications like WordPad, To paint, Windows Media Player and a few other apps now appear on the optional features page. This means that you uninstall the apps that appear as an optional feature.

Uninstall and reinstall WordPad

Now, to uninstall or install WordPad on your Windows 10 device, you must first make sure that you are on the latest version of Windows 10. It will work on Windows v 2004 and later. There are two ways to do the uninstall or reinstall task:

1. Uninstall / reinstall from the optional features menu
2. Uninstall / reinstall using the DISM command

Make sure to restart your system after performing one of the following methods.

To uninstall WordPad using the optional features menu:

1. Press the Win + I keys, the Settings the application will open.
2. Move towards applications > applications & features.
3. Now click on the Optional features link. The menu of optional features will open.
4. In the list of optional features, scroll down and search for WordPad.
5. Select the option and click Uninstall.

To reinstall WordPad using the Optional Features menu:

1. Press the Win + I keys, the Settings the application will open.
2. Move towards applications > Applications and features.
3. Now click on the Optional features link. The optional features menu will open.
4. Click on Add a characteristic.
5. In the list of optional features, scroll down and search for WordPad.
6. To select WordPad and click Install.

Wait a bit and you will find WordPad in the Start menu.

Using the command prompt is the best way to uninstall / reinstall WordPad from your system.

Open the command prompt as an administrator.

To uninstall WordPad, type the following command and press Enter:

dism /Online /Remove-Capability /CapabilityName:Microsoft.Windows.WordPad~~~~0.0.1.0

To reinstall WordPad, type the following command and press Enter:

dism / Online / Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Microsoft.Windows.WordPad~~~~0.0.1.0
