Top 10 Ways to Fix Low Volume on YouTube Videos in Chrome
When playing a video from the official Guiding Tech YouTube channel, I noticed that the volume was too low. So I increased the volume on my Windows 10 PC, but it didn’t help much. Playing any YouTube video had the same low volume problem. Check out the solutions mentioned in this article for low volume on YouTube videos if you want to fix the same problem.
Before performing the fixes mentioned in this troubleshooting guide, you should play a different video in a new tab. This is to check if the problem occurred during a
single video. With this, you can be sure that the problem is not limited to a single video, but occurs for all YouTube videos.
Also try to play any audio or video file offline on your PC. If it works correctly, it’s time to start the process of troubleshooting YouTube’s low volume problem in Chrome.
1. Restart the computer
When was the last time you restarted your computer? If it is a
a few days, it’s time to hit the restart button. There’s no harm in restarting again, even if you activated it normally today. Sometimes a
a simple restart has magical powers.
2. Check the YouTube volume
Although it is easily visible on the YouTube player, we sometimes forget that YouTube has its own volume control. If the volume is low, you will hear a low sound even if the volume on your PC is high. So you need to check and change this.
To do this, open YouTube in Chrome. Play any video. Hover your mouse over the sound icon in the YouTube player. A volume slider will appear. Turn up the volume. You can also hold down the SHIFT key and use the up or down arrows to increase or decrease the volume.
Pro tip: If there is no YouTube volume, right-click the YouTube tab in the top bar and select mute audio.
3. Check the volume for Chrome
In Windows 10, each app gets a separate volume setting. You can therefore have the maximum volume in one application and 50% in another. Sometimes this setting changes for Chrome, which is why you get low volume on YouTube.
There are two methods to remedy this.
6. Disable audio enhancements
You should also try to turn off the audio enhancements. To do this, go to Sound in the Control Panel. Click on your speaker, then press the Properties button at the bottom.
Go to the Advanced tab. Uncheck the box next to Enable audio enhancements. Click OK to save the changes.
Pro tip: On the Advanced tab, try changing the sample rate and bit depth values under Default Format.
7. Modify communication parameters
In Windows 10 audio settings, you will find a setting that reduces the volume if you are using a PC for phone calls. You should change it for optimal results.
To do this, go to Control Panel> Sound. Click the Communication tab. Select Do nothing.
8. Disable spatial sound
For many users, turning off spatial sound on their Windows PCs has improved volume levels on YouTube. To turn it off, right-click the sound icon in the taskbar. Go to Spatial Sound in the menu and turn it off.
9. Check extensions
Have you recently installed an extension in Chrome specifically related to YouTube or audio? If so, turn it off for a while and see if the YouTube low volume issue is resolved.
10. Update Chrome
Chrome is mainly updated automatically in the background. In rare cases, if not, check out our guide on how to update Chrome.
Reset Chrome settings
We believe that one of the solutions mentioned above should have resolved YouTube’s low volume problem. If the problem persists, you can either reinstall the audio driver or reset the Chrome settings. Before resetting Chrome, find out what’s going on and how to reset Chrome settings.
