Top 4 Ways to Fix Fire TV Stick Not Installing Apps
The Amazon Fire TV Stick is ready to use with some pre-installed applications. However, a handful of third-party applications take the functionality of the streaming key to a whole new level. Apps like YouTube and Netflix provide you with a library of thousands of videos while other apps simply allow you to connect devices to your TV via the Fire TV Stick wirelessly. But what happens when the Fire TV Stick does not download an application? Discover four things to do if your Fire TV Stick does not install applications.
While there may be many reasons, we believe the problem is due to network connectivity issues, insufficient storage space, or invalid payment and shipping details on your Amazon account. We share more details on the solutions in the section below. Check them.
For this guide, I assume that you are trying to install apps on Fire TV Stick from its app store and not loading them aside.
1. Check the network status
The first thing you want to do when a Fire TV Stick is not installing an application is to check if your device is connected to the Internet. Sometimes your Fire TV Stick can be connected to your Wi-Fi router and still does not have access to the Internet. In addition to not being able to install new applications, if other previously installed applications do not open despite the connection to Wi-Fi, the problem is probably related to the network.
To confirm, however, you need to check if your Fire TV Stick is having problems connecting to your Wi-Fi network.
Step 1: Go to the Fire TV Stick Settings menu and select Network.
2nd step: Access the Wi-Fi network to which your Fire TV Stick is connected. If there is a message “ Connected with problems ” in the lower right corner of the page, it means that the Wi-Fi network does not have access to the Internet.
Step 3: For more information on the problem with this particular network, press the Play / Pause button on your Fire TV Stick remote to check the network status.

2. Restart Fire TV Stick
This is another basic solution for repairing a Fire TV Stick that will not download applications. Restart the Fire TV Stick from the ‘My Fire TV’ menu or perform a hardware restart and try to download or reinstall the applications.
Restarting Fire TV Stick from the menu
Step 1: Go to the Fire TV Stick Settings menu and select the “My Fire TV” option.
2nd step: Scroll to the bottom of the menu and select Restart.
Step 3: Select Restart to confirm the action. Your Fire TV Stick will shut down and restart immediately after a few seconds.
Physical / hard restart
This involves unplugging your Fire TV Stick adapter from power sources and plugging it back in. You can also disconnect the micro-USB cable from the Fire TV Stick dongle and reconnect it.
Using the remote control
You can use the remote shortcut to quickly restart the Fire TV Stick. To do this, press and hold the Select button (the big round button) and the Play / Pause button on your Fire TV Stick simultaneously for about 4-5 seconds until a message “ Your Amazon Fire TV turns off ” appears on your TV screen.
The device should restart automatically after shutdown. Then try to install the application (s) on the Fire TV Stick and check if it works. If the installation process still does not continue, continue to the next step below.
3. Check the storage of the Stick TV Fire
By default, the Amazon Fire TV Stick comes with 8 GB of built-in storage. Of these 8 GB, only around 5 to 6 GB are available for installing the application and other downloaded multimedia files. Generally, whenever there is approximately 500 MB or less on your Fire TV Stick, you will receive warning prompts to free up space. If the device runs out of storage space, you won’t be able to install new apps. Follow the steps below to check the remaining space on your Fire TV Stick.
Step 1: Go to the Fire TV Stick Settings menu and select “My Fire TV”.
2nd step: Select About.
Step 3: Then go to Storage and you should see how much storage your Fire TV Stick has available.
If your Fire TV Stick storage is full, you may need to delete some apps to create space for new apps.
It’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to free up storage space on your Fire TV Stick. Follow the steps below to uninstall apps on your Fire TV Stick.
Uninstalling the application on Fire TV Stick
Step 1: Launch the Fire TV STick Settings menu and select Applications.
2nd step: Click on the “Manage installed applications” option.
Step 3: Now tap on the app you want to uninstall from your Fire TV Stick. On my device, I uninstalled AirScreen (a screen mirroring app), for example.
Step 4: Select Uninstall.
Step 5: Click Uninstall to confirm the action.
Uninstall as many apps as you barely use to free up enough storage space for the new apps you want to install. If the Fire TV Stick fails to install the apps despite sufficient storage space, proceed to the following troubleshooting fix.
4. Check the payment method and delivery address
If you have an expired or invalid payment method and delivery address linked to your Amazon account, you will not be able to install applications from the Fire TV Stick AppStore. If none of the above fixes work, verify that your Amazon account is set up correctly with the correct payment methods and delivery addresses. Here’s how to check.
You will be asked to log into your Amazon account.
2nd step: If you do not have a valid payment method or delivery address linked to your account, press the “Add purchase preference” button and follow the prompt to add new payment and shipping details .
Do it, restart your Fire TV Stick and you should now be able to install applications without any problems.
Tip of last resort: reset the TV Fire key
If none of the above solutions work for you, you need to reset Fire TV Stick to factory settings. After that, unplug the Fire TV Stick from the TV or monitor for at least 30 seconds and plug it back in. This has often worked for many users.
If your Fire TV Stick still doesn’t install apps after resetting, you need to contact Amazon Customer Service and request a replacement.
