Top 4 Ways to Fix Windows 10 Taskbar Color Not Changing Issue
Who doesn’t love personalizing their Windows desktop? Fortunately, Windows 10 has a dedicated setting to customize your PC. From changing the general theme to changing selective colors, Windows 10 has it all. It even allows you to change the color of the taskbar. However, some users cannot change the color of the taskbar. For them, the taskbar color setting is grayed out.
The taskbar is an important component of our PC that we consult regularly. It is visible almost every time we do something on our PC. It makes sense to personalize it in a way that we would like to see. But what if your PC stops customizing it?
Well, we are here to help you. Let’s see four ways to fix Windows 10 taskbar color issue.
1. Change the color settings
Microsoft offers three ways to customize colors on your Windows 10 PC. You can either configure it to use the predefined light or dark theme where the theme of Windows items (Start menu, taskbar, etc.) and applications is changed. Alternatively, the third option allows you to fully customize the colors as desired. You can set Windows mode to use dark mode and apps can be in the light theme or vice versa.
Strangely, if you select Light in the Color option, you cannot change the color of the taskbar – it will appear grayed out. So, you must use the Dark option or opt for Custom. Even in custom mode, you should select the default Windows mode as dark and not bright.
Do not worry! Here are the steps in detail.
Step 1: Open Settings on your Windows 10 PC using the Start menu icon. You can also use the Windows + I keyboard shortcut to open the settings.
2nd step: Go to Personalization.
Step 3: Click Colors in the left sidebar.
Step 4: Now, under Choose your color, select Dark or Custom.
If you select Dark, go to the next step. If you choose Custom, you will have two options. In “Choose your default Windows mode”, select Dark. You can keep the App mode dark or light.
Step 5: Scroll down in the same setting and the “Start, taskbar and action center” option will now be available. Check the box next to it. Then select the color from the color palette above.
Step 6: Restart your PC.
2. Change the theme
If you’re using a third-party theme, it’s likely to interfere with the taskbar’s responsible color settings. So you have to change the default theme.
To do this, follow these steps:
Step 1: Press the Windows key + shortcut I to open the settings on your Windows 10 computer.
2nd step: Go to Personalization, then to Themes.
Stage 3: Scroll down and click on the Windows theme to apply it.
Step 4: Restart your PC. If the problem persists, go to Colors under Settings> Personalization. Check the box next to “Start, taskbar and action center”. Then select the color you want to use. You can even repeat the above method to change the color of the taskbar.
3. Disable automatic highlight color selection
If Windows automatically applies color to your taskbar, you must turn off an option in the Colors setting.
To do this, go to Settings> Personalization> Colors, as shown above. Then, under Choose your accent color, uncheck the box next to “Automatically choose an accent color for my background”.
Point: Learn how to fix the Windows 10 taskbar that isn’t hiding in full screen mode.
4. Deactivate the color filter
You can also try disabling the Color Filter setting on your PC. To do this, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open Settings on your computer. Access Ease of Access.
2nd step: Select Color Filters in the left sidebar. Next, turn off the toggle next to Turn on color filters.
Bonus tips for customizing the taskbar
Here are some tips to help you take control of your taskbar on a Windows 10 device.
Disable transparency effects
Once you have set the accent color for the taskbar, you may notice that it is slightly dull. To get vibrant colors, you need to turn off the transparency effect settings.
To do this, go to Settings> Personalization> Colors. Turn off the toggle next to the transparency effects.
Use a third party application
If you want to further customize your taskbar, you need to take the help of the third party application called TranslucentTB. The application allows you to customize the color of the taskbar for normal mode, in a maximized window state, when the Start menu is open, etc.
Customize everything
We hope that the problem of changing taskbar color has not been solved on your Windows 10 PC with the above methods. Note that changing the color of the taskbar will also change the color of the Start menu and the Action Center. It would be great if Microsoft allowed us to customize the three separately in future versions of Windows.
