Top 8 Ways to Fix MIUI Widgets Not Working Issue

MIUI is one of the most popular mobile interfaces. Developed in-house by Xiaomi, it is highly customized to modify the user experience that one obtains in stock Android. In the last MIUI 11, many supported the new features, but many struggled with widgets because they didn’t work for them. This can be frustrating for those who enjoy and use widgets regularly.

Widgets are fun, informative, and highly customizable if you know what you’re doing. They can also consume a lot of system resources, including battery juice. Take care of these little nuances when using them.

1. Create a new widget

Perhaps a bug or a simple and banal error is responsible for the widget that does not work or for an update error? It can also prevent the app from launching when you tap it. So long press on the widget and hit delete to delete it.

Then long press on the home screen and select Add widgets. This will vary depending on the launcher you are using. I installed Microsoft Launcher. You can use any other and there are a few cool options available in the Play Store.

Scroll or search for the widget you want to add, press and hold on the widget to drag it to the Home screen. Depending on the widget and the application it belongs to, you may be asked to configure it.

2. Disable MIUI optimization

Open Settings and under About phone, press the MIUI version title 10 times. You should see a pop-up that says, “You are a developer now.” Find Activate MIUI optimization in the settings search and press to open it.

Scroll to the bottom of the screen and disable this setting. By default, it is activated. If you notice bugs and errors on the device, or some features don’t work as expected, you can always re-enable this setting.

7. Update the operating system and application

Open Settings and under About phone, select System update.

Check for an operating system update and apply it if necessary. A recent version of MIUI 11 was known to cause all kinds of problems with widgets, but it was later resolved.

Open the Play Store and find the app whose widgets don’t work. Check if there is an update and if there is one, then you need to install this update. For that, you will see the Update button instead of Open at the top in the Play Store. You can also see a list of updates available for all installed apps under My apps and games.

8. Change the launcher

Which launcher are you using? It is possible that the launcher settings are messed up, or that there is a conflict or even a bug that prevents the widgets from working properly on MIUI 11?
