Top 15 Ways to Fix Google Play Store Stuck at Waiting for Download Issue
You can get this error in the form of a pending download or unable to download from the Play Store also. All the solutions mentioned in this article will also work for these problems.
Let's see how to fix Google Play Store issues such as waiting for download on Android phones.
1. Restart the phone
You should try to restart your Android phone or tablet. Sometimes this little step shows wonderful results without touching any other parameters.
2. Check internet connectivity
Is the data connection working on your phone? Open any website on your mobile browser to check if internet connectivity is active or not. Maybe your mobile data or your Wi-Fi is not working, and that is why you are waiting for a download error on Play Store. If you're having trouble downloading apps or updates, check out our detailed guide to fix Google Play Store issues with mobile data.
3. Check the available storage
Do you have enough space on your device to download or update the required app? To check this, go to Phone settings> Storage. You will get a detailed overview of the available storage. If your phone is running out of storage, start by deleting unnecessary apps and data to free up space on your phone.
You should also take a look at the available storage on your SD card if you're using one. If the problem persists, delete it from your phone and then try to download the apps.
4. Check the date and time on your phone
Sometimes due to an incorrect date and time on your phone, Google Play Store stops downloading apps, and this is why you have to wait for a download error. To fix it, you need to correct the date and time on your phone.
To do this, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the phone settings and go to System.
2nd step: Tap Date and time. Then activate the toggle next to Automatic date and time. If it is already activated, deactivate it and reactivate it.
Step 3: Restart the phone, then try to download the apps from Play Store.
5. Check app download preferences
Play Store comes with a native setting that allows you to select the type of network for downloading your apps. You can choose Wi-Fi only, any network or request each time. This setting can also be the cause of pending download or pending download problems.
To fix it, open the Play Store and tap the three bar icon at the top. Tap Settings.
Tap the app download preference. Select On any network.
6. Disable automatic updates
Sometimes downloads of new apps are blocked due to slow automatic updates in the Play Store. To fix this, you need to turn off automatic updates.
To do this, open the Play Store and try to download or update an application. Next, tap the three dot icon in the upper right corner and uncheck the box next to Enable automatic update. Disabling it would resolve the Play Store pending download.
You can also turn off automatic updating by accessing Play Store settings. Then tap Auto update apps and select Don't automatically update apps.
7. Check the parental control settings
Have you activated parental controls on the Google Play Store? Take a look. They can interfere with your downloads. To do this, go to the settings in the Play Store. Tap Parental Controls. You can either deactivate parental control or customize it differently.
8. Clear cache and Play Store data
Clear the cache and data are two separate things. Start by clearing the Play Store cache. If that doesn't solve the problem, erase the data. Clearing the cache or data will not delete your installed apps or any other data from your phone. However, erasing data will log you out of the Play Store.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Open the phone settings and go to Apps & Notifications or Installed Apps or Application Manager.
2nd step: Find Google Play Store under All apps.
Step 3: Tap Storage. Then tap Clear cache. Restart your phone.
Step 4: If the problem persists, also clear the Google Play services cache under All apps.
Step 5: Finally, if nothing works, tap Clear data or storage in step 3 for the Google Play Store and Google Play services.
9. Grant the necessary authorizations
Google Play Store and Play Services require certain permissions to function properly. Make sure they have all the necessary permissions like storage and the like.
To check and grant permissions, go to Phone settings> Applications & notifications. Under All apps, tap Google Play Store, then tap App permissions.
Then authorize the storage authorization.
10. Update Android WebView system
You should also check if an update is available for the preinstalled WebView application. To do this, open the Play Store and search for Android System WebView. You can directly open Android System WebView in the Google Play Store for the web. Tap Update (if available).
11. Disable VPN
Do you use a VPN on your phone? Try to turn it off for a while. Then download or update the apps from the Play Store. Hopefully the download pending error will be gone. This happens because there is sometimes a problem in the VPN app.
Doing that will only remove the recent updates. It will not uninstall the Play Store from your phone. Wait for 5 minutes to let Play Store and Services update again in the background. Then, try installing the apps.
14. Install Play Store Manually
Sometimes, even after reinstalling Play Store, as shown above, the issue continues. The reason could be that the current version of the Play Store is buggy.
